Quantitative Commercial Analyst (Energy)

Our client, a leader in the energy sector, is seeking a Quantitative Commercial Analyst to conduct in-depth quantitative analysis for pricing structured energy transactions, assessing physical asset risks, and supporting strategic initiatives. This role is critical in identifying value, mitigating risks, and presenting financial models to key stakeholders, ensuring informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Transaction Pricing & Analysis:
- Price structured energy products such as options, swaps, plant tolls, PPAs, and physical assets.
- Develop, improve, and utilize models for transaction valuation and portfolio-level risk assessment.
- Market Analysis:
- Conduct targeted analysis of key price drivers, supply/demand forecasts, and regulatory changes.
- Assess the impact of market conditions on transaction risk and value.
- Stakeholder Communication:
- Present valuation results and risk assessments to executive management.
- Identify and address model limitations, simplifying assumptions, and shortcomings.
- Team Collaboration:
- Contribute to the development of modeling infrastructure and expand the knowledge base of the Structuring team.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Economics, Engineering); advanced degree preferred.
- Experience:
- 3+ years of energy industry experience in a quantitative or commercial capacity.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. natural gas and electric market fundamentals, including supply/demand and regulatory frameworks.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in VBA, R, Python, or similar programming languages.
- Expertise in asset valuation methods, including dispatch models, options, swaps, tolls, and PPAs.
- Experience with commodity and derivative transactions, including assessing regulatory impacts.
- Attributes:
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate complex analyses to stakeholders effectively.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $130,000–$165,000 per year, plus bonus and long-term incentives (LTI).
- Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package provided.
- Work Arrangement: Onsite 3–4 days per week in Houston, TX.
