Quality Technician
Location: Novi, MI (Fully On Site)
Max Pay: $23/hour
Work Schedule: Onsite 5 days a week, 8 hours per day. Start time is somewhat flexible, typically between 5:30 am - 2:00 pm or 6:00 am - 2:30 pm. Overtime may be required during the week and/or weekends.
Additional Qualifications/Manager Notes:
- Candidates with strong quality credentials, particularly those experienced in the automotive industry, are preferred.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding blueprints/drawings is essential.
- Experience with checking fixtures, tooling build fixtures, and end effectors is a plus. Ability to perform internal buy-offs using blueprints and quality documentation is required.
- Familiarity with Faro operator and/or CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Knowledge of methodologies such as 3L5Y, 8D, and kaizens would be helpful.
- Exposure to standard product buyoffs (e.g., Power Roll beds, Respot, Pop-ups, Turntables, GEO bases) is beneficial.
Summary
As a Quality Technician, you will support project teams in implementing Quality Control within manufacturing plants. Your role involves clear communication of quality deliverables and performance targets, emphasizing a ‘Zero Defect’ mindset. By ensuring supplier, manufacturing, and customer interactions align with the highest quality expectations, you contribute to superior customer satisfaction.
Duties and Responsibilities (not an exhaustive list):
- Report to the Plant QC Supervisor.
- Serve as the quality interface between Manufacturing Leaders and Production Supervisors.
- Conduct routine data collection, analysis, and feedback.
- Inspect production processes and products (quality control gates) both at the plant and customer sites.
- Report non-conforming products or process deviations to immediate supervision.
- Develop and enhance quality control checklists.
- Monitor closure of open issues and non-conformances.
- Drive continuous improvement by adhering to standards on the shop floor.
- Measure and track departmental performance.
- Analyze selected areas for improvement.
- Align the QC department’s vision with the established plant’s vision.
- Coach supervisors and hourly personnel on QC procedures and requirements.
- Document current and future states, stretch objectives, and QC performance targets.
- Implement Quality KPIs throughout the plant, educating hourly employees and supervisors on effective tracking and usage.
- Perform in-process inspections, including IBOs (Initial Build Outs), torque audits, visual walks, and buy-offs.
Key Performance Indicators & Measures:
- Quality KPIs for Site Quality Control.
- Periodic recertification and validation of inspection processes through job observations.
- Data-driven decisions regarding quality indicators.
- Customer Satisfaction Index.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3-5 years of Product or Process Quality Management experience in the automotive or allied industry.
- Relevant education and quality certifications are preferred.
