Direct Reports: Up to 20 hourly employees
SUMMARYOF POSITION
The Quality Supervisor is responsible for all aspects involved in the day-to-day running of the operations on the respective shifts, with a strong quality focus. This individual exercises independent discretion in planning, organizing, facilitating, and directing employees regarding production tasks within the assigned department. A key goal of this position is to ensure the assigned department meets all scheduling and specification requirements in an efficient, economical, and safe manner. The Quality Supervisor also ensures that all quality standards, time requirements, and good manufacturing practices are met, and works to prevent any injuries or unsafe conditions for production workers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Ensure production and CPI goals are met
- Assist with implementation of methodologies for improved inspection and defect reduction in manufacturing
- Manage gage/tool calibration process in accordance with the specified procedures
- Assist with ensuring compliance to all industry standards (ISO 9001 / AS9100, NADCAP), regulatory, government and specific customer specifications, internal procedures required in support of meeting contractual requirements for all deliverable hardware to customers
- Assist with supervision of various product quality assurance activities, for example, receiving inspection, gage lab, CDI, GI, NDT etc., as required
- Supervise and direct employees in adherence to employee standards of conduct and with applicable collective bargaining agreements
- Initiate lean/continuous improvement activities in line with Northstar’s business goals and objectives
- Exercise discretion in directing assigned department to reduce waste and improve overall effectiveness
- Supervise and control the nonconforming product and process and disposition product and process non-conformances. This may include supervision of the MRB process and MRB submissions for customer approval. Ensure product containment when potential for escape to customer is suspected. Ensure accuracy of defect description and accurate assignment of responsibility during initiation of NCR’s
- Assemble, review, and approve data packages for presentation to customer source inspection
- Direct and develop improved inspection methods. Ensure compliance for gage/tool calibrations
- Work closely with government and/or resident customer inspectors to ensure compliance to contractual requirements. Assist with all product related corrective action processes
- Review rejected material for defect severity and disposition. Complete J-Order, initiate repair/documentation procedures
- Maintain a safe, healthy, and risk-free production environment
- Ensure strict adherence to safety rules and departmental housekeeping standards
- Responsible for production schedules in department/departments assigned
- Enforce all quality standards and adherence to QMS elements
- Investigate and analyze production defects, safety issues, and employee concerns or complaints
- Investigate and try to resolve employee issues, typically at 1st step in grievance process
- Recommend process and safety improvements in line with important company-wide goals and objectives
- Identify training needs and allocate training resources
- Monitor performance of hourly personnel and provide counseling, coaching, or discipline where appropriate
- Provide key input for performance appraisals and compensation evaluations
- Make recommendations regarding hiring and termination as situation warrants
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering and/or 5-10 years of equivalent experience in the aerospace quality industry preferred
- Experience Required: Minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory capacity in an organized labor environment
- Knowledge of close tolerance manufacturing applications
- Knowledge of manufacturing and quality assurance for compliance to contractual requirements of gears, shafts, and housings
- Demonstrated increasing levels of responsibility
- Ability to work with all levels of workers in a team-oriented environment
- Demonstrated capacity to exercise independent supervisory judgment regarding personnel matters
- Demonstrated understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts and 6-Sigma defect analysis
- Excellent interpersonal and management skills
- Working knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
