Third shift available: 11:00 pm to 7:00 am Sunday to Friday
Testing and inspection of wire and cable products at various stages of the production process. Compile and evaluate data to determine and maintain the quality and reliability of products. Evaluate data and complete inspection to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards. Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications.
Essential Functions:
- Read work order to determine inspection criteria and verify identification numbers and product type.
- Test sample, materials, or products using various test equipment for conformance to specifications
- Measure dimensions of product using measuring instruments such as a ruler, measuring tape, caliper, gauge, or micrometer to verify conformance to specifications
- Notify supervisor or specified personnel of deviations from specifications
- Reject products or materials not meeting specifications
- Analyze test data, making computations as necessary to determine test results
- Read dials or meters to verify that equipment is functioning at specified levels
- Monitor production operation or equipment to ensure conformance to specifications, making recommendations to the supervisor so that necessary process or assembly adjustments are made
- Locate reels and routers for cables needing to be tested, per the priority established by the supervisor
- Maintain a clean, well-organized, and safe work environment. Follow all safety procedures, including moving the reels correctly and ensuring that all procedures are followed when applying voltage to the cable
- Complete paperwork includes tag information, daily log sheet, red tags, retain sample tags, etc.
- Recommend necessary corrective actions based on inspection results
- Escalate issues outside of their authority to a higher level
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of wire and cable products
- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, statistics and their applications
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to conduct tests and inspections of products and processes to evaluate the quality and performance of a product
- Analytical skills with the ability to use logic and reasoning in identifying the strength and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
- Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers (deductive reasoning) and combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions, including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events (inductive reasoning)
- Ability to quickly and accurately compare similarities and differences or patterns
- Ability to observe and obtain information from all relevant sources, use this information along with individual judgment to determine whether products and processes comply with standards
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, multi-task, and resolve problems
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient using Microsoft Office applications – Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as other company-specific programs
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Attention to detail with consistent accuracy
- The ability to read and communicate information and ideas in English in both spoken and written form so others will understand
Qualifications:
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience required
- Associate’s degree, helpful
- One (1) to (3) years of previous work-related experience
