Job Summary and Qualifications
The Quality Improvement (QI) Specialist is responsible for performing concurrent and retrospective quality management / practice improvement reviews as defined by the individual departments / divisions including complication & mortality review, national quality indicator review, TJC indicator/standards review and other specified indicator monitoring, data entry and database management. The QI Specialist is an active participant in point-of-care improvement activities as well as staff education based on opportunity assessment/gap analyzes findings. The QI Specialist may also assist in the collection/reporting of data for peer review to support the credentialing and reappointment process. This staff member will provide the coordination for programs as assigned by the Vice President of Quality such as Sepsis, Stroke, Peer Review, and Cancer Care.
- Serves as coordinator for assigned Hospital or Medical Staff quality work groups/PI teams, providing required support functions such as meeting notices, minutes, case review documentation, etc.
- Establishes systems and procedures for consistent, appropriate case identification and other practice or outcomes monitoring activities.
- Consistently and accurately abstracts data within established timeframes; promptly performs requested focus reviews.
- Provides reports of aggregate and individual practice data, using spreadsheets, graphics, and other applications as assigned.
- Participates in Hospital and Medical Staff education regarding aggregate data use and potential value to improved clinical and financial outcomes.
- Collects and analyzes program data to assist with documentation, clinical care and improved outcomes.
- Facilitates the development, implementation and ongoing adherence to program protocols and therapies. Ensures the protocols and therapies become the standard of care followed within the facility.
- Consistently and effectively manages information, maintains data integrity and accuracy, and compiles statistics for assigned Departments/Services.
- Participates in continuous preparation for accreditation and regulatory site visits by external agencies.
- May be required to participate in rounds and proactively respond to patient needs to improve patient outcomes and positively influence overall patient experience.
What qualifications you will need:
- Associates degree required, Bachelors preferred
- 2 years of Quality/PI, Acute Care Nursing, ICU Preferred prior experience with MIDAS preferred
- Certification in Quality (CPHQ) preferred.
- Proficient in word, excel and other Microsoft applications
- A professional demeanor and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and staff is required
- Knowledge of Performance Improvement methodologies
- Fluent in Spanish preferred
