Job Details
Responsibilities:
Conduct supplier qualifications through on-site evaluations and research, and perform regular supplier audits.
Manage the supplier rating system, communicate quality levels, and lead improvement initiatives.
Act as the MRB representative for supplier quality issues, conducting investigations and initiating corrective actions.
Lead the first article inspection process and oversee related follow-up actions.
Collaborate with shop floor personnel and other departments to address issues with supplied products.
Develop and implement inspection and measurement systems, including procedure creation, specification interpretation, statistical sampling, and quality control measures at both the company and supplier locations.
Define and communicate conformance standards and requirements between the company and suppliers.
Work with suppliers to improve quality assurance processes and foster continuous improvement in supplier and product performance.
Solicit supplier input on product design, considering manufacturability, cost, reliability, and availability of parts.
Lead technical discussions with suppliers prior to production to ensure clear understanding and feasibility of requirements.
Perform process and first article reviews, along with witness testing at both supplier and company facilities, ensuring products meet all design, specification, and contractual requirements.
Analyze trends, issue corrective action requests, and work with suppliers to resolve material discrepancies and identify root causes.
Review engineering and manufacturing specifications to identify materials required for product assembly.
Interpret and assess manufacturing audits, including ISO 9001 and other applicable industry standards.
Assist with logistics, including vendor communication related to packaging and receiving issues.
Conduct internal audits and participate in the internal audit team.
Perform additional duties as required.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Strong understanding of ISO 9001 and other relevant industry quality standards.
Ability to lead suppliers in achieving high-quality product standards through strong interpersonal and technical skills.
Familiarity with quality tools such as SQC, SPC, FMEA, DOE, and process flow charting.
Understanding of electronic, software, and mechanical technologies.
Excellent communication skills, both written and interpersonal, with the ability to interact effectively at all organizational levels.
Broad knowledge of quality engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
Expertise in inspection and testing techniques.
Knowledge of ISO 9001-based quality systems, as well as Nadcap, AS9100, and AS9102 standards.
Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with suppliers, peers, and other functional teams.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
Strong technical writing skills.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
A minimum of 5 years of experience as a quality engineer, quality assurance professional, or quality auditor.
