This opportunity is for a position on the prestigious 10-story, $200+M, 255kgsf new Fort Lauderdale US Courthouse project. The role involves providing professional and technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) support for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design and construction, ensuring the project meets high-quality standards. This is a full-time, on-site position set to begin in January 2025, running through substantial completion in December 2026.
As a senior SME, you will have significant responsibility for interpreting construction documents, design review, and ensuring the quality assurance of MEP systems. Your professional registration as a mechanical engineer, combined with a minimum of seven (7) years of specialized experience, will be critical to success in this role.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Act as the field quality assurance inspector for MEP/HVAC systems.
- Oversee Building System Commissioning (Cx), including coordination of the Design-Builder’s Cx Plan to ensure the project achieves system performance in line with design intent.
- Collaborate closely with APSI’s Commissioning Agent (CxA) to provide effective oversight and technical support as required.
- Provide technical assistance as needed, even outside your specific area of expertise.
- Participate in ongoing project meetings to ensure the best interests of the project are protected throughout its commissioning process, working towards substantial completion and final acceptance.
Required Qualifications (Experience, Education, Certifications, Clearances, etc.):
- Professional registration as a mechanical engineer.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of specialized experience in mechanical engineering, with expertise in design review and quality assurance for MEP systems.
- An engineering degree from an accredited institution (advanced degrees are a plus).
- Ability to pass a US government security background clearance (current, unexpired clearance is preferred).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience on GSA Courthouse projects or equivalent MEP scope/commissioning.
- Commissioning experience with relevant industry certifications:
- ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 202 - 2018
- Experience with ASHRAE Guideline 0-2005: The Commissioning Process

- The Whole Building Design Guide
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with the general contractor, designers, and the owner.
- Proficiency in digital communication and documentation tools.
