Position Summary:
The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for testing and inspecting products at various stages in the production process to assure that our products and customer specifications are being met. This position requires monitoring current processes, procedures and documentation throughout the organization as well as creating new processes, procedures and documentation as required. This position also requires collecting and identifying process deficiencies throughout all stages of our manufacturing process and performing supervisory responsibilities as needed.
Essential Functions:
- Works with department supervisors, engineers, pre-press technicians and floor personnel to resolve day-to-day issues, achieve team objectives, and promote quality principles.
- Acts as back-up Shift Supervisor to performs Shift Supervisor duties when needed.
- Coaches employees and promotes quality performance improvement across the organization utilizing the company recognition program.
- Consults with the QA Manager on operational and administrative issues impacting the effectiveness of the quality system.
- Conducts audits of work in process for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards using quality control checklists, job ticket, work instructions and procedures, calibration and preventive maintenance logs, Company established test methods. Communicates audit results to the QA Manager through both oral and written reports.
- Operates and calibrates all company test equipment and conducts QC testing on products in accordance with documented test methods.
- Records inspection or test data.
- Performs AQL inspections and associated AQL reports as required for select customers.
- Promptly addresses non-conformances that may impede the performance of the employee, department, product, or print process.
- Collects and prepare performance data thru charts and graphs for analysis.
- Updates and maintain current documentation (SOP's) within the quality system.
- Works with the QA Manager to ensure consistent follow-up of time-sensitive quality requirements such as corrective actions, customer complaints and procedural changes.
- Reviews incoming supplier certificates of analysis for raw stock.
- Collects data for certificates of analysis on finished products for our customers.
- Assists Production by supporting with the following daily activities when requested:
- Proof read & Scan copy and content for graphics on orders as needed.
- Validate proper Color Methodologies are being followed.
- Measure and test printed products for Customer specific in process conformance.
- Collect, visually inspect and test press retains as defined per In Process Test requirements.
- Communicate issues verbally and/or in writing with press operators and management.
- Maintain quality records and files including retains
- Organize and manage color standards, IE: Print Standard / Press Standards
- Collect data for customer certificates of conformance or analysis as required by customers.
- Control internal non-conforming product produced.
- Assist in pulling color standards for upcoming jobs as needed.
- Visually inspect & manage marketing and standard samples for review prior to delivery to CSR or Sales.
- Maintain QC work areas in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Maintain form center for updated and correct documents.
- Report the following on the QDRL (quality daily report log) tracking the following:
- # Jobs reviewed
- # of Retains Checked
- # of in process controls Test
- # of Orders inspected against Customer Technical Specification
- # of Products scanned utilizing the Global Vision system.
- Report all non-conformances found during the shift
- Report all Visual discrepancies found
- Finished roll inspections, damage to Paper liners, core tag data matches product.
- QDRL to be emailed to Quality Manager, Plant Manager, Supervisors & Quality Technicians.
- Review Customer Critical to Quality specifications and report updates or errors.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Related degree or equivalent combination of education and 2-4 years of quality / inspection experience preferred.
- High school diploma / GED / or equivalent required.
- Strong work ethic, time management, organizational and troubleshooting skills, positive attitude, and detail-orientation required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong mathematical and analytical skills required.
- English language proficiency required.
- Proficiency in PC environments with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications required.
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance required.
- Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people, maintaining flexibility, objectivity, professionalism and a capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously required.
Physical and Other Requirements:
This job is performed indoors in a temperature and humidity controlled environment. Job tasks are performed in close proximity to other people and, when entering the adjacent manufacturing plant, include exposure to strobe lights, sounds and noise levels that may be distracting. The employee must frequently stand, stoop, walk, bend, sit, talk, listen, and lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities include, but are not limited to, close vision and a strong ability to distinguish colors and shades. Requires use of hands to handle, control or feel objects and operate computer and other office-related equipment.
