Job Summary
This position is responsible for ensuring conformance to the quality program and validating the quality of incoming and outgoing goods or services to ensure that the quality of all products meet the specifications as guaranteed to customers.
What will you do
Using documented methods, tests raw materials, products, and finished goods to specifications. Informs production of all non-conforming products, and informs R&D, Purchasing, and Production of non-conforming raw materials, as appropriate.
Calibrates measuring equipment according to schedule.
Interfaces with and collaborates with site chemist and Line Lab chemists to validate formulas and helps with investigations.
Interprets test results and recommends corrective action. Independently works with R&D Line Lab to resolve formulation issues, including recommendations for changes when appropriate.
Troubleshoots equipment and procedures, and recommends changes to improve the quality system; Based on knowledge of equipment and testing procedures, helps with equipment validation and calibration.
Shows initiative in solving problems, using SQC; Analyze statistical results from SQC.
Utilizes current approved corporate procedures and methods for all QC equipment
Manages moderate and complex projects with supervision.
Takes ownership of certain Lab areas and is responsible for maintaining the equipment and documentation for that area, as designated by the Lab Supervisor/Manager.
Organizational Relationships
Production: QC Directly Supports Production batch making
Planning: Collaborates to ensure smooth batch making and release
R&D: Collaborates with R&D for batch validation and resolving issues
Purchasing: When needed, interfaces with Purchasing concerning Raw Material issues
External Contacts
Various Equipment Vendors: When needed, contacts vendors for troubleshooting equipment issues and helps with preventative maintenance
Work Environment / EHS Responsibilities
Maintain an orderly workplace by keeping laboratory benches clean, closing bench drawers after use, and maintaining free access to exits and emergency equipment.
Clean up work areas upon completion of an operation or at the end of each work day, including the floors and avoid unnecessary clutter.
Keep work surfaces free from chemical contamination. Clean up small spills promptly.
Re-shelve chemicals promptly in their designated places after use.
A separate waste receptacle is designated for glass. If glassware is contaminated, it should be thoroughly rinsed prior to disposal.
Do not block exits, emergency equipment or controls, electrical panels or use hallways and stairway as storage areas.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS/COMPETENCIES to perform the job duties
Key Education or Certification Required
B.S. or Associates in Chemistry or other related technical field required.
