Position Overview:
The QA Manager – Food Safety oversees corporate Quality Assurance policies and programs to support safe food products manufacturing operation: HACCP, audits (internal & external), product hold and recall programs, sanitation, and food safety compliance.
Responsibilities of the QA Manager – Food Safety:
- Set Quality objectives to achieve full safety compliance in line with GFSI and state / federal safety regulations for the GMP site.
- Serve as primary liaison between plant and regulators (USDA, FDA, auditors, etc.).
- Create and implement inspection criteria and procedures.
- Design Quality training programs to enhance plant safety compliance.
- Direct activities of employees engaged in inspection and testing to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products.
- Monitor products and processes for adherence to standards, ensure prompt and thorough investigation and risk assessment when product safety may be compromised, and minimize the amount of nonstandard/held products.
- Manage hold product disposition and reporting.
- Analyze lab and in-process reports for trends that may be of concern to the Company. Maintain the facility’s microbiological testing and pest control programs.
- Assist cross-functional teams to ensure product compliance and proper labeling.
- Communicate with suppliers regarding raw material quality conformance and help resolve issues. Manage supplier approval program for raw material and packaging. Lead supplier monitoring, evaluation, and audit activities.
- Work with Maintenance to complete chemical and new equipment approvals.
- Serve as the Food Safety Team Leader and manage the HACCP Plan, Prerequisite Programs, Food Safety FSMA Plan, Food Defense Plan, Food Fraud Plan, Crisis Management and Recall Plans.
- Handle export documentation and regulatory issues.
- Investigate customer and consumer complaints, review trends of concern, and manage compliant reduction initiatives.
- Create and implement sanitation procedures for the plant and equipment.
- Inspect premises for unsanitary practices and conditions. Identify and resolve issues.
- Ensure records and reports are prepared and distributed as required.
- Assist in developing QC and sanitation budgets.
- Perform training in all Quality & Safety disciplines.
Qualifications for the QA Manager – Food Safety:
- Experience in food safety, sanitation, and compliance, applicable in the food industry.
- Experience in baked or frozen food processing, and refrigeration safety.
- Experience in TQM, quality systems, and auditing.
- Leadership skills. Experience in training.
- Must be HACCP or PCQI certified.
Education Requirements:
- Degree in Food Science, Food Safety in GMP food processing/production environments, or related disciplines.
