Intertek Alchemy is actively seeking a Quality Assurance Manager to join the Product Engineering team in Austin, Texas or remotely. The QA Manager will:
- Be responsible for the Quality of products and leading a team of automation and manual quality engineers
- Interact with management and the business, on critical matters that require negotiation
- Contribute to the specific vision and strategy initiatives for QA, recognized as an influential leader at Alchemy
This role is responsible for leading the Quality team through full lifecycle of work from test planning to test execution and metrics for the quality of desktop and web applications. This position will formalize a QA practice, creating standards, measurable value, and delivering quality software to market using industry recognized agile methodologies and best practices.
This is a personnel management position and someone with that experience is desired. A Senior QA Engineer with proven leadership and influence experience will be considered.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
This position reports to Vice President of Product Engineering.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

- Organization Leadership: Manage budget, expenses, and capital costs. Review schedules and balance load across products and agile teams. Make customer and department-wide presentations.
- Team Leadership: Manage QA Engineers who support multiple products on multiple agile teams. Attract, develop, and retain capable individuals. Cultivate high performing teams. Provide the active coaching needed to advance individual skills and career development. Support the self-organization of the team. Provide freedom and safety so that individuals and teams are free to innovate, experiment, and even fail on occasion.
- Quality Assurance Strategy: Develop and implement a QA strategy that aligns with company goals and ensures delivery of highest value and quality products. Implement and ensure adherence to QA best practices and standards. Drive and execute automation strategy.
- Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance QA processes to streamline workflows, improve efficiency, and drive excellence in product quality. Support teams to remove systemic impediments and implement continuous improvement backlog items. Foster relentless improvement.
- Test Planning and Execution: Develop test plans, test cases, and execute testing activities to identify and resolve defects, ensuring the reliability and functionality of our products. Support teams in problem identification, root cause analysis, and decision-making. Create and present options with recommendations. Assess and proactively communicate risks.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including development, product management, and customer support, to ensure seamless communication and collaboration throughout the product lifecycle. Leverage a customer-centric mindset. Establish the right relationships with customers to create the right test cases.
- Foster an Environment of Transparency: Create an environment where the 'facts are always friendly'. Keep Work in Process (WIP) backlogs and information radiators fully visible to all. Communicate openly and honestly with all stakeholders. Value productivity, quality, transparency, and openness over internal politics.
- Metrics and Reporting: Establish and track key quality metrics, providing regular reports to stakeholders on the status of product quality, testing progress, and issue resolution.
- Drive Built-in Quality: Understand, teach, and encourage the skills needed to support the development of high-quality solutions. Foster a QA Community of Practice
- Perform other duties as required.
ESSENTIAL RQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- 8 years experience in a Quality Assurance role or other closely related discipline.
- 2 years in a senior QA role.
- 2 years providing QA leadership and mentoring other QA engineers.
- Proven experience implementing a new process.
- Experience with cloud and on-prem software products.
- Experience creating test plans and test cases, and executing testing.
- Experience building automation frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
- Hands-on experience with automated testing tools, such as ConceptJS, Selenium, Postman, and Appium.
- Experience as a member of a Scrum team.
- Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.

- Must possess the fundamental technical and administrative skills required to perform the job duties

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience as a QA Manager or in a similar leadership role, including direct HR management experience (e.g., performance review, hiring, and termination responsibilities).
- Experience with a staff growth period, and comfortable with re-alignment to changing goals.
- Working in an Azure or AWS environment and knowledge of REST and SQL.
- Experience with Learning Management software.
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and regulations (PCI, PII, PHI, HIPAA, GDPR, ADA, etc.).
- Use of SAFe or another scaled agile methodology.
- Experience testing mobile native or cross-platform apps.
