Position Objective:
The PV Electrical Engineer participates in and leads utility-scale photovoltaic power plant designs. The position is part of a fast-paced and multidisciplinary team requiring excellent engineering knowledge, AutoCAD drafting skills, and experience/coordination with land development. The position collaborates closely with our Engineering and Development teams on a diverse selection of solar projects. Our PV Electrical Engineer has advanced AutoCAD understanding and brings technical skills and efficiency to our dynamic team.
Responsibilities:
- Leading electrical engineering portions of commercial and utility scale solar.
- Coordinating internal resources to generate construction sets (30%-IFC) for multiple projects (1-3) in company portfolio.
- Verifying incorporation to design with Sr. PV Electrical Engineer and coordination of change orders with appropriate internal party.
- Ensuring all interconnection study reviews and utility feedback are implemented in later stage designs (30%-IFC).
- Reviewing electrical calculations including, but not limited to, short circuit, arc flash, ampacity, or others as required.
- Establishing and maintaining consistency in short-circuit studies through outside consultants.
- Managing internal engineering resources to maintain design deadlines.
- Coordinating with engineering team to ensure priorities are aligned.
- Collaborating with Engineer of Record to review and approve projected deliverables specified in scope of work.
- Implementing adequate Real, Apparent, and Reactive Power expectations depending on strategy and utility requirements.
- Collaborating with Sr. project engineers to create, and optimize, preliminary layout design of PV systems.
- Developing a specialty knowledge or skill set to complement the existing team's capabilities.
Requirements:
- Electrical Engineering degree from an accredited program.
- 3+ years of experience working in a professional engineering, construction, or land development environment.
- Complete understanding of 480V, 600V, and 800V PV designs.
- Strong familiarity with current NEC, NESC, and IEEE requirements.
- Experience managing internal engineering resources.
- Strong communication skills enabling them to lead technical conversations with contractors and internal customers.
- Proficiency establishing equipment specifications to generate final submittals.
- Familiarity of SCADA design standards to complete Performance Test and O&M PV Sites.
- Experience reading geotechnical reports and testing performed for electrical studies.
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of integrity and proven organizational capacity to manage multiple projects is required.
- Strong AutoCAD drafting skills with experience utilizing layers, blocks, coordinate systems, dimensioning, and industry standards; familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D or AutoCAD Map 3D a plus.
- A proven ability to provide efficient, timely, and reliable service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Must have a "roll up your sleeves and let's get the job done right" type attitude.
- Demonstrated qualities of integrity, credibility, and professional responsibility.
- Ability to travel and access sites of varying terrain. Position requires frequent travel, up to 1-2 weeks per month or about 20% of working time; must carry an acceptable driving record and active driver's license.
