Role Overview for Purchasing Manager
The Purchasing Manager is a full-time, salaried exempt position, designed for a 40-hour workweek. This role is based onsite at our Seattle branch and reports directly to the CEO.
Core Responsibilities for Purchasing Manager
- Achieve Excellence: Drive sales and gross margin success, with a branch target of $250M in annual sales and $37.5M in gross margin (15%).
- Lead Purchasing Efforts: Oversee purchasing operations for local and regional customers, ensuring seamless service and optimal pricing.
- Build Supplier Relationships: Cultivate strong connections with suppliers, mills, and distributors. Conduct annual supplier site visits and strive to become the “customer of choice.”
- Collaborate for Success: Work with the VP of Strategy to lead sales meetings, provide training, and monitor team performance.
- Expand Customer Base: Partner with the VP of Strategy and sales team to develop new customer relationships through lead generation and prospecting.
- Monitor Performance: Track account profitability and customer satisfaction, taking proactive action when necessary.
- Ensure Smooth Deliveries: Oversee product shipments and transactions from order placement to delivery, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Stay Market Savvy: Keep up with market activities and pricing trends through research and analysis.
- Communicate Effectively: Provide clear feedback and direction to the executive team, fostering open communication.
What You Bring as a Purchasing Manager
- A proven track record of success that aligns with our guiding principles.
- Experience: 15+ years in purchasing with mills, lumber suppliers, and forest product distributors within 500 miles of Seattle, and 5+ years selling to general contractors or framers in construction.
- Relationships: Existing connections with general contractors or framers in the multi-family space are a plus.
- Skills: Strong data analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Drive: A self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Mindset: A growth-oriented, grinder mentality.
- Tech Savvy: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, and web-based tools.
- Education: A 4-year college degree is required.
