About the Job
This position maintains supplies for the Operating Room in the most efficient manner. Assists the Purchasing Coordinators and purchasing office staff with managing and maintaining the flow of operations for the Operating Room staff, physicians, and patients
Responsibilities:(35%)* Verifies and captures daily operating room charges. Review product stock levels in the operating rooms and core areas and fills supplies as needed. Communicates with SPD, Specialty Coordinators, and Materials Management when stock is low.
(35%)* Distributes supplies throughout the department and verifies delivery of supplies daily, verifies par levels are correct in operating room suite along with supplies readily available weekly or as needed depending on the case load for surgeons' preferences and surgical services office supplies.
(20%)* Order, check, log, distribute and return loaner instruments/equipment/ and implants. Order office supplies for all operating room areas. (10%)* Assist Supply Purchase Specialist, Clinical Nursing Coordinator, along with purchasing office personal if needed.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Run case reports to update calendar or schedules and case information as appropriate. File receiving papers, catalogs and product information as needed. Check inventory of breast implants, vascular carts, open heart implants, allograft and fresh frozen bone every month. Log all required implants in the logbook within 24 hours of use with the pertinent information per medical center policy. Calculate charges for loaner/trial/special order items and give to the OR schedulers within 3 days of use for proper patient billing. If 3 days is not feasible due to vender cooperation, then assistant will notify OR schedulers. Pick up and deliver mail to/from Purchasing as needed. Communicate with SPD, Riecker Surgery Center, Materials Management, Surgery, physician offices, sales representatives, Operating Room staff, scheduling clerks, Biomed and Maintenance as needed. Verify Operating Room charge sheets daily and reorder supplies. Works collaboratively with the OR team to utilize product and equipment efficiently. Rotate stock to utilize products that will expire first. Communicate with coordinators and leadership when products are not being used and/or outdating. Miscellaneous duties as assigned
Certifications and Licensures:N/A
Required Education:High School Diploma or GED required
Equivalent Experience: Associate's degree in business or medical field preferred.
Other Information:
Knowledge of medical terminology as normally acquired through one-year experience working in a Medical Center or similar setting. Basic knowledge of the personal computer and office equipment to maintain office files. Basic knowledge of Operating Room process flow, care and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment. Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner. Medical Terminology preferred. Proven computer skills through office work or classes taken preferred. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s). Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
