This Purchasing Agent is responsible for processing requisitions, purchase orders, and competitive bids for general and specialized commodity areas such as boats, motors, law enforcement equipment and scientific instruments. The Purchasing Agent prepares a large volume of authorized requisitions, Requests for Quotes, and Invitations for Bids in accordance with State Term Contracts and Departmental Guidelines. The Purchasing Agent is responsible for obtaining, processing, and monitoring service contracts for the Division. In addition, this position tracks procured supplies and equipment from order placement to delivery to inspection to authorization of payment processing; all steps utilizing various software systems. The Purchasing Agent communicates with and assists staff daily on state, departmental and division policy, and procedures for purchasing and contracting needs. The Purchasing Agent works directly with contractors, vendors, and staff to resolve problems related to the ordering, purchasing and delivery of goods and services to the Division of Marine Fisheries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare bids and quotations to purchase goods and services in electronic portals.
- Knowledge of products and contracted services along with negotiating for best pricing.
- Research procurement requests and communicate findings to staff.
- Maintain data lists for Division.
- Provide a high level of customer service to staff and outside vendors.
- Apply purchasing policies and state rules to procurement requests.
The Division of Marine Fisheries
The North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) is responsible for the stewardship of the state’s marine and estuarine resources. The DMF’s jurisdiction encompasses all coastal waters and extends to 3 miles offshore. Agency policies are established by the nine-member Marine Fisheries Commission and the Secretary of the Department of Environmental Quality. North Carolina is a member of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council, the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council, and the National Shellfish Sanitation Program. Recruitment Range: $38,516 - $50,970
