Job Title: Purchaser/Buyer - Steel Supplier/Fabricator/Construction Group
Location: Tacoma, WA
Job Description: We are seeking a Purchaser/Buyer with experience in purchasing within a steel supplier, fabricator, or construction group. The Purchaser/Buyer will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials and supplies necessary for construction projects, ensuring timely delivery and cost-effective purchasing.
Responsibilities:
- Source and select suppliers for steel materials and other construction supplies, based on quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to secure favorable agreements.
- Review purchase requisitions and generate purchase orders in accordance with project specifications and budgetary constraints.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and procurement needs.
- Monitor inventory levels and track material usage to identify purchasing needs and prevent stockouts.
- Expedite orders and resolve any issues or delays with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of materials.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, including invoices, receipts, and supplier agreements.
- Analyze market trends and supplier performance to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve purchasing processes.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements in all purchasing activities.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and external suppliers to provide updates on purchasing activities and resolve any issues or concerns.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in purchasing or supply chain management is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in purchasing within a steel supplier, fabricator, or construction group.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Knowledge of steel materials, construction processes, and industry standards.
- Familiarity with procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions within established guidelines.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to changing business needs.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
- Commitment to maintaining integrity and ethical standards in all purchasing activities.
