Pump Shop Manager Job Summary
The Pump Shop Manager will be responsible for managing the Pump Shop. This person will also be responsible for overseeing the scheduling, tearing down and rebuilding of vertical turbine pumps for tank barges, as well as overseeing service for customers. You will be responsible for careful inspection during disassembly as well as documenting dimensions, fits and clearances during assembly. You will also provide on-site maintenance, technical support and service for pump customers. You will represent the company in a positive way at all times, acting professionally while performing pump maintenance/service and training.
Pump Shop Manager Responsibilities
- Responsible for creating the daily work schedule for all Pump Shop employees including overtime management
- You will lead the Pump Shop employees; answer questions, problem solving, train when necessary, and ensure all employees are following applicable procedures.
- Responsible for overseeing Pump Shop in all aspects, and for keeping communication lines between all departments flowing well and without conflict.
- Find the root cause(s) for any problems/issues and implement the best solution.
- Responsible for disassembly and assembly of Vertical Turbine Pumps
- Must follow detailed procedures and document exact dimensions and fits during assembly
- You will be responsible for performing service for the company customers such as repairing/replacing mechanical seals and stuffing boxes.
- Stay in contact via email and phone with customers that require service
- Expected to perform service or assign a pump service employee(s) to work with minimal notice and be willing to drive several hundred miles away.
- Take detailed notes on both service and training jobs and input service report in Smartsheet.
- Email reports after each job with details including date, contact names, barge number, customer issues, customer feedback, solution, your suggestions, working conditions, and issue status
- Prepare internal and quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing trends for failed processes, and continuously work on new ways for better processes.
- Maintain organized work areas and storage areas in Pump Shop.
- Work primarily with Plant Manager, Production Manager, Valve Shop Lead, Sales, and Office Manager to lead all employees to help others, cross dept if necessary, to work as a team to make sure our customers are taken care of while producing quality products and meeting delivery requirements.
- Work with Plant Manager regarding any personnel issues and also Director of HR when necessary.
Pump Shop Manager Position Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience as a Pump Mechanic or Service Technician on Tank Barges
- 3 or more years of Team Lead experience; great leadership skills
- Attention to detail and great work ethic
- Analytical, problem solving, time management and decision-making skills
- Demonstrate teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills
- Expert Mechanical Ability
- Ability to lead with empathy, accountability and Integrity
