About the Job
Performs skilled technical engineering work that requires the field locating and collection of data on existing and newly constructed infrastructure; the preparation and review of as-built/record drawings; computer drafting of utility replacements and extensions; the preparation of utility maps and presentation exhibits; assisting with maintenance of the utility Geodatabase; and assisting with construction observations of utility installations and utility testing. The work requires utilizing knowledge of standard utility practices and mathematics, as well as a working knowledge of various water, reclaimed water, and wastewater conveyance systems and appurtenances; knowledge of GPS and survey equipment for locating utility infrastructure; experience utilizing computer aided design software to create utility design drawings and record drawings; and knowledge of ArcGIS software for creating and editing utility maps.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Locates existing utilities using ground penetrating radar, metal locator, magnetic locator, cameras or other necessary equipment.
- As-builds new and existing utility infrastructure utilizing basic surveying techniques.
- Operates Global Positioning Systems (GPS) equipment to collect location data on water and wastewater utility lines and appurtenances, property lines, rights-of-way, easements, roadways, etc.
- Downloads collected GPS data and creates shapefiles for use in preparation of design and Record Drawings.
- Prepares design and Record Drawings utilizing Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software.
- Creates and edits utility maps utilizing ArcGIS software.
- Reviews submitted As-Built and Record Drawings for conformance with County utility Minimum Drawing Requirements and CADD Standards.
- Assists in the installation and maintenance of County weather stations.
- Interprets drawings and blueprints in the performance of job duties.
- Assists in updating and maintaining utility Geodatabase.
- Maintains as-built/record drawing files for water distribution and wastewater collection systems and assists with location for service connections.
- Performs condition surveys of existing infrastructure including, but not limited to gravity sewer, manholes, waterway crossings, lift stations.
- Other utility engineering functions as appropriate, such as providing construction lay outs, operating total station, and performing vertical and horizontal control and vertical surveys as needed.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
- May be responsible for the training and development of other staff as needed.
- Provide exceptional customer assistance, problem solving, and/or complaints by all forms of communication.
- May be responsible for assisting other departments as needed.
