The Public Safety Aide (PSA) position is a non-sworn, non-certified position designed to provide professional work experience to individuals interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
The Public Safety Aide (PSA) is a non-sworn, non-certified position designed to provide professional work experience to individuals interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. An employee in this position will be responsible for processing arrestees, performing jail duties, assisting police officers with prisoner restraint and the physical management of individuals in custody. This position will also provide administrative support to the front desk officer and perform non-peace officer duties as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed.)
- Performs jail attendant's duties, searches prisoners taken into custody, assists with restraining subjects in custody, and processes arrests in compliance with established policy and procedure.
- Takes finger prints and mugshots, processes court paper work and other related duties as directed.
- Maintains front desk and jail / booking area to ensure operational safety and efficiency.
- Assists lobby counter traffic, including but not limited to, assisting citizens and/or township employees.
- Assists Police and Fire Personnel as needed and performs a variety of tasks and public safety duties, but not those of a peace officer or firefighter.
- Keeps records and prepares reports as assigned.
- Maintains and logs all activity in an accurate and timely manner.
- Keeps current on PSA scheduled training to maintain a degree of knowledge and proficiency that will ensure the successful completion of tasks assigned.
- Responsible for learning, understanding and adhering to federal, state, local laws and department policies and procedures as relates to the PSA position.
- Performs other duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Minimum Age of 18.
- Demonstrated and verifiable interest in Law Enforcement as evidenced by prior and current education and training and volunteer activities. Completion of at least twelve college or university credits in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Homeland Security or related field preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Public Safety clearance during the course of employment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills required
- Basic computer skills required.
- Previous experience in money handling preferred
- Ability to provide emergency assistance in an orderly, proficient manner.
- Ability to obtain information necessary for the prompt and efficient delivery of service.
- Must possess personal physical stamina and endurance to respond to physical management situations and assist with restraining individuals in custody.
- Ability to remain calm and to act quickly and effectively in emergencies.
- Ability to properly and efficiently operate the required office equipment.
- Ability to maintain accurate and legible records and prepare required reports.
- Ability to hear well, comprehend quickly, and speak clearly and concisely in a well-modulated and audible voice during high stress situations when there may be multiple conversations occurring at the same time.

Selection Questionnaire: Thursday, November 7, 2024 - Thursday, November 14, 2024
- Candidates selected to move on in the hiring process will be emailed a selection questionnaire on Thursday, November 7, 2024
- The completed questionnaire can be returned by mail, in person or via the drop box and must be received in Human Resources prior to 4:30pm on Thursday, November 14, 2024.

Written Test - Tuesday, November 26, 2024
Candidates selected to move on in the hiring process will receive email notification confirming they have been scheduled to take a timed written examination.
- Applicants who are not invited to the testing will receive email notification they are no longer being considered.
- Tests will be scored. Those applicants passing the written examination with a minimum of 70% or above will be considered for an oral interview based on the qualifications presented on the application, questionnaire and pre-employment tests.

Eligibility List Established
- Upon conclusion of the posting and oral interviews, an Eligibility Hiring List will be prepared establishing an expiration date one year from preparation date.
