Job Summary
Youth and Family Engagement and Involvement refers to the systematic inclusion of families in activities and programs that promote youth transition, education, health and wellness with effective planning, implementation, and evaluation. This program works with transition aged youth ranging from 14-24 to provide continuous engagement through collaborative efforts.
Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for coordination and programming for youth with special healthcare needs, chronic illnesses and/or disabilities. Programming includes educational training, conferences, and community events related to youth transition. The Youth Program Coordinator will oversee the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) comprised of youth ages 14-24 with developmental, mental, physical, emotional, or behavioral special healthcare needs. The Youth Advisory Council is a leadership opportunity through the Tennessee Department of Health to advise on activities, programs, policies, and resources that affects the health, wellbeing, and successful transition of youth across Tennessee.
FUNCTIONAL DUTIES:
Create and implement a plan for accomplishing the priorities and goals of the Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs Section (CYSHCN) and Family and Youth engagement program, making recommendations on resources needed to meet those expectations.
Nurture existing collaborations and cultivate new working relationships with programs serving youth and families across the state, with special emphasis on disparate and underserved populations.
Design and implement quarterly educational training events centered on transition for youth with disabilities, special healthcare needs and/or chronic illnesses. Evaluate and report on impact.
Manage peer mentor training program and cultivate peer-to-peer mentor relationships between youth with special healthcare needs, chronic illness and disability
Develop self-advocacy trainings and foster a supportive community for youth with and without special healthcare needs, chronic illness, and disability.
Serve as a liaison with Family Voices of Tennessee and other recommended community stakeholders.
Manage the statewide Youth Advisory Council, which includes:
Recruiting and training new Youth Advisory Council members across Tennessee.
Coordinating quarterly YAC meetings and community events.
Manage Youth Program's social media presence.
Source and create appropriate and engaging content to achieve program goals.
Analyze social media analytics to gauge success and provide data-driven suggestions to improve performance.
Document all contacts and activities with state agency staff, professionals, families, and youth leaders.
Participate in internal and external meetings to enhance knowledge on program outreach, planning and implementation.
Participate in the planning, organization, and execution of statewide conferences for families of youth with special healthcare needs, chronic illness and/or disabilities.
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The applicant must have lived experience with a special health care need, chronic illness and/or disability.
Have working knowledge (through training and/or experience) of healthcare and related service systems for youth with special healthcare needs, chronic illnesses or disabilities.
Experience working with the youth population.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work well with individuals of diverse backgrounds and cultural traditions.
Strong presentation skills, virtual and in person.
Must be able to work independently.
Skill managing and creating original content on a variety of social media platforms.
Basic understanding of social media marketing and analytics.
Organized and able to meet required deadlines.
Proficiency with computer software (examples: Google Drive, Microsoft Office, data entry software)
Must be able to travel for training, meetings, or conferences.
Baccalaureate degree or equivalent experience.
Experience with program development, preferred.

- This is a part-time contract position.
- This position will report to the Director of Family and Youth Engagement.
