- Note: This position is a hybrid role that will spend a portion of each week in the office/virtually working and a portion in the field. The chosen candidate will work on a four-person peer team geographically based with projects spread across the following NC counties: Wilkes, Surry, Yadkin, Stokes, Forsyth, Davie, Davison, Rockingham, Guilford, Alamance, Randolph, Lee, Chatham, Orange, Durham, Caswell, Person, Granville, Vance, Franklin, Warren, Halifax, Nash, Wilson, Edgecombe. Chosen candidate must reside within a daily-commutable distance to work in an office 2-3 days a week in the above-mentioned territory and be willing to travel within the territory for on-site customer and construction meetings.
Job Description:
- The Infrastructure (Public) Engagement team consists of communications professionals with a deep understanding of how to advance key transmission, distribution, energy storage and renewables infrastructure projects through proactive community outreach and public engagement. This position creates and implements project-specific engagement plans to ensure proactive external engagement and communications throughout a project’s lifecycle.
- Public engagement manager will work with customers and communities to capture the perspectives, opinions and concerns of the public and incorporate those internally into the planning, siting, permitting and construction processes.
- The Public Engagement Manager requires in-depth knowledge and experience in external engagement, demonstrated ability to build strong internal relationships across a highly matrixed organization, proven skill to develop and execute complex communications internally and externally, and who can document and report on progress. A successful candidate must be able to work independently with minimal oversight and direction.
Responsibilities
- Create and implement custom project-specific external engagement plans that align to business unit milestones. Primary business units include distribution, transmission, regulated renewables, energy storage, and new electric generation.
- Coordinate and implement strategic proactive outreach efforts for projects and other activities impacting customers and the public.
- Conduct outreach activities including preparing and coordinating external written communications, response, dispatch, and tracking of external project inquiries, and monitoring and tracking project information.
- Align (matrixed) to project management and respective business units to ensure close coordination and understanding of key project milestones.
- Maintain strong and collaborative working relationship with Client’s Government and Community Relations managers to understand the local communities and jointly develops strategies to engage in local communities.
- Approve letters, collateral, and presentations, as needed, in coordination with corporate communications. Help coordinate the printing/mailing and emailing of external communications.
- Initiate, follow up, and conduct phone calls and personal visits directly with customers as appropriate based on the issue.
- Monitor property owner inquiries on assigned projects and manage response and documentation. Maintaining a master site list and other project documentation and reporting.
- Lead the preparation and implementation of public information meetings and participate in public hearings as required.
Basic/Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- In addition to bachelor's degree, three (3) years minimum of related work experience
- In lieu of bachelor's degree AND three (3) years minimum of related work experience listed above, high school diploma/GED AND seven (7) years minimum of related work experience.
Specific Requirements
- Candidate must reside in one of the following counties and be willing to travel within this territory for project and customer meetings: Wilkes, Surry, Yadkin, Stokes, Forsyth, Davie, Davison, Rockingham, Guilford, Alamance, Randolph, Lee, Chatham, Orange, Durham, Caswell, Person, Granville, Vance, Franklin, Warren, Halifax, Nash, Wilson, Edgecombe. Valid driver's license

- Three years or more of demonstrated management and /or experience in a lead/leadership role.
Working Conditions
- Attendance at early morning, night and weekend community meetings and activities
- Extensive travel throughout the assigned territory and occasionally the state
- Requires availability 24/7 for storm response or other issues/emergencies.
- Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite.
