The successful candidate will be responsible for consultative services for patients in the Emergency Department and Inpatient Hospital, as well as overseeing inpatient care on the Behavioral Health Unit.

Job Details
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Adult Psychiatrist to join our team, committed to providing high-quality and timely care to patients with behavioral health disorders.
The successful candidate will be responsible for consultative services for patients in the Emergency Department and Inpatient Hospital, as well as overseeing inpatient care on the Behavioral Health Unit.
Position Requirements
- Qualifications: Board-eligible, preferably board-certified Adult Psychiatrist.
- Licensure: Must be licensed to practice in Massachusetts.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with or willingness to work within a managed care framework.
- Professionalism: Ability to represent the department positively and respectfully in internal and external settings.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to observe facial and body expressions and listen actively to assess patient interactions.
- Verbal interaction with patients, staff, and physicians in both individual and group settings.
- Physical ability to access all areas of the hospital, including the Emergency Department and inpatient units.
- Limited exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues; may require personal protective equipment.
Clinical Duties
- Conduct diagnostic screenings and evaluations; order and interpret necessary laboratory tests.
- Evaluate assigned patients daily or arrange for continuous coverage with staff psychiatrists.
- Develop and direct treatment programs for acute care; administer or refer for follow-up care as needed.
- Document all findings and services provided in patient records thoroughly.
- Collaborate with attending medical physicians and specialists for timely treatment and discharge planning.
- Actively participate in daily treatment planning rounds for patients in caseload.
- Engage in Quality Improvement activities.
- Provide on-call coverage during weekends, weeknights, and as negotiated with the Chief of Psychiatry.
- Deliver psychopharmacological treatment, educating patients on risks and benefits.
- Participate in departmental staff meetings and provide supervision of staff as negotiated.
- Maintain timely documentation reflecting interventions, outcomes, and patient involvement in treatment plans.
- Participate in relevant Hospital and Medical Staff Committees.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Age-Specific Competencies
- Provide ongoing inpatient care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Determine appropriate follow-up care for patients of all ages presenting to the Emergency Department.
- Offer psychiatric consultation to medical/surgical patients across all age groups upon request.
Quality Management
- Ensure clinical duties comply with professional practice standards and regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain documentation that meets hospital, regulatory, and contractual standards.
- Uphold privacy standards by safeguarding Protected Health Information as required by law.
Expected Outcomes
- Deliver competent, comprehensive inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services.
- Ensure compliance with JCAHO mandated requirements, DMH regulations, and contractual performance standards.
- Collaborate with community agencies and other providers for effective outpatient continuing care.
- Stay informed about the latest developments in Psychiatry and maintain professional status through continuing medical education.
