Title: Psychiatric Medical Director
Department: Primary Care
Shift: Part-Time - 24 hours a week
Location: Dual Home Base - 4009 North Broadway, Chicago, Illinois 60613 and 5501 S Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60621
The Psychiatric Medical Director provides clinical, psychiatric leadership to psychiatric providers and other clinical and operational staff across Heartland Alliance Health (HAH). The Psychiatric Medical Director ensures quality psychiatric to special populations, emphasizing psycho-education, recovery, reduction of harm, management of symptoms and treatment of mental illness, addiction and trauma and provides administrative oversight of psychiatric care within HAH. The role of the Psychiatric Medical Director in a community setting is a response to society’s demand for accessible quality psychiatric care to all populations regardless of socio -economic status. Productivity is defined in the provider’s contract.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Psychiatric Leadership and Service Delivery:
- Collaborates with the multidisciplinary treatment team to ensure continuity of care.
- Oversees the management of psychiatric plans of care, process and outcome and institutes changes when need.
- Adheres to collaborative practice principles of respect and joint decision-making.
- Provides as system of psychiatric outreach. .
- Practices within the legal, ethical and professional guidelines established by: American Medical Association (AMA), American College of Physicians, American Psychiatric Association, American Society of Addiction Medicine, private funding sources, Agency plans/policies, HIPAA, HA Ethics,
- Philosophy of Care and program guidelines. Participates in periodic evaluative reviews and/or in-house and external staff training to ensure that he/she understands and continues to adhere to such standards. Initiates requests for assistance or guidance from Manager to address new issues or complex concepts affecting adherence to professional standards.
- Collaborates with other multidisciplinary professionals and community agencies to provide high quality care.
- Seeks opportunities for community and professional outreach to maintain and increase referral base.
- Providing training and presentations to other HAH staff and multi-disciplinary professionals and community agencies, as agreed to with supervisor.
- Participates in quality improvement collaborative peer review.
- Incorporates and disseminates research findings as a basis for practice and to improve health care outcomes.
- Prepares the appropriate program reports to fulfill funding requirements as assigned.
- Assures access and continuity of care by creating an on call system for afterhour’s coverage.
- Assumes the responsibility for maintaining competence in clinical practice by:
- Engaging in mentor relationships with experienced providers to gain clinical expertise.
- Developing and maintaining a case load and meet Organization productivity standards.
- Participating in appropriate educational activities in order to maintain Board certification and continue professional growth
- Performs other duties as necessary.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervision, hiring and disciplinary action of all psychiatric providers and other staff as assigned.

- Education and/or Experience: Preferred Doctor of Medicine (MD) and ten years related experience, or Licensed APN and 15 yrs experience; or equivalent combination of degree and experience.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Active Illinois licensure/certification as well as evidence of ongoing CME’s, documentation of Degree from an accredited school, and verification of legal claims history.
