Job Summary
The CTSI Clinical Research Unit (CRU) at the University of Utah is currently seeking applications for the position of an experienced clinical nurse or research nurse to become part of our team. We are a clinical research nursing unit, serving inpatient and outpatient settings, committed to safe patient care and adherence to research protocols. The preferred applicant will possess a robust clinical background and meticulous attention to detail. Responsibilities
Essential Functions including and not limited to:
- Conducts patient assessments to identify, evaluate, and diagnose health issues, both actual and potential, through comprehensive interactions.
- Develops and implements strategic interventions to address patient care challenges effectively.
- Crafts individualized care plans for patients, accurately documenting the nursing process in their records.
- Monitors and evaluates patient responses to interventions, adjusting care plans as necessary to achieve healthcare objectives.
- Designs and delivers education for patients, their families, or significant others regarding post-discharge care. Initiates care conferences with the healthcare team to update care plans based on patient condition changes.
- Ensures a safe and therapeutic environment is maintained for patient care.
- Provides leadership and direction to healthcare team members to uphold a high standard of patient care.
- Engages in continuing education to stay abreast of developments in nursing care practices.
- Guides and educates new staff on nursing techniques and departmental procedures.
- Delivers and supervises direct patient care in alignment with established nursing protocols and physicians' directives.
- Utilizes expertise in medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precautions to implement appropriate interventions during crises.
- Contributes to total quality management initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and improve system-wide care.

Ability to function during regularly scheduled, 12-hour, extended, or alternative shifts.

Ability to deal with the hazards involved in assessing and providing care to patients.
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
Preferred
Some positions may require additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within one year of hire.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Incumbents must have the ability to function during regularly scheduled, 12-hour, extended, or alternative shifts; demonstrate both mental and emotional stamina in situations dealing with death, multiple patients, family members, etc.; function calmly and competently in high-stress situations; and the ability to deal with the hazards involved in assessing and providing care to patients.
Incumbents face exposure to potentially dangerous infectious contaminants as part of the daily hazards of the job. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
