- This position resides in the Prototype Shop of the Lockport Engineering Center. The Prototype Shop has the lead in conversion of engineering ideas and designs into physical parts. It also supports the engineering department in the development of new products and processes.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a member of a high performing team with a diverse and overlapping set of capabilities. This position requires an individual with a willingness to take on diverse jobs and to continue to learn new skills as projects require, and who is able to broaden our ability to respond to rapidly changing project workloads and needs.
- Creates, design, and constructs tools and parts using a variety of materials including plastic, wood, steel, and aluminum.
- Uses drawings and CAD designs to create prototype parts according to specifications.
- Fabrication of metal or plastic component parts and tools.
- Perform minor repairs to machinery
- Interacts with engineers and provides design recommendations
- Minimum of a High school diploma is Required; 2 year Associates or 4 year Bachelors degree in a technical field a plus
- 3 years of model making, prototyping, machining and/or tool making experience is Required; 5 or more years Preferred
- Journeyman in one of the above areas preferred
- Experience in CAD design preferred (Solidworks or NX a plus)
- Experience operating press brakes a plus
- Experience operating Haas CNC Milling machines a plus
- Experience operating Doosan CNC Lathes a plus
- Experience in additive manufacturing (i.e. 3D printing) in an industrial or commercial setting a plus
- Knowledge in plastic and metal processing technologies
- Willing to learn new skills as required to complete tasks
- Skilled with hand tools and machining equipment
- Able to read drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
