About the Job
TPG is seeking a motivated, dependable, and safe Vehicle Build Mechanic to support an automotive testing company in New Carlisle, IN. The Prototype Vehicle Build Mechanic will service and repair complex mechanical or electronical systems of vehicles and lend support with in-test inspections, vehicle repairs and more.
Prototype Vehicle Build Mechanic Essential Job Duties
- Diagnose mechanical, hardware, software, and systems failures using established procedures.
- Perform maintenance, testing, and calibration of repaired products.
- Prepare reports for analysis of product failure trends and serviceability issues.
- Communicate with field-based technicians for details helpful to failure diagnostics or repair, but generally without direct client contact.
- Welding fabrication with Tig, Mig, Stick, Oxy-Acetylene Welding skills & plasma cutting.
- Electrical troubleshooting and diagnostics
- Assemble and modify commercial vehicles according to engineering specifications
- Perform installations of components such as engines, transmissions, axles, and suspension systems
- Conduct pre-delivery inspections to ensure vehicles meet quality standards
- Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent prioritization, organization, and time management skills
- Must be detail oriented.
- Must be technology savvy and have a good understanding of Microsoft products
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with shifting priorities while maintaining confidentiality.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Previous experience with commercial vehicles
- Experience with alternative fuels, including EV (electric vehicles), and/or Propane
- Experience with Cummins/Allison/Eaton/Duramax
- Training/Education as a Truck mechanic, as a Diesel Engine mechanic
- Experience with welding fabrication with Tig, Mig, Stick, Oxy-Acetylene Welding skills & plasma cutting
- Knowledge of multimeter and/or module programming
Education & Experience
- Associate's degree
- At least 3 years of experience as a diesel mechanic working with commercial vehicles.
(or) At least 5 years of experience as a diesel mechanic working with commercial vehicles
- Able to work cooperatively in diverse and challenging environments.
- CDL-A (strongly preferred)
Important considerations:
- Safety Sensitive position requiring all persons assigned to activity be drug free and successfully pass drug screening prior to employment.
- Requirement to lift at least 50 lbs.
