Job Description
Would you like to take your career to the next level? CDM Smith has an immediate need for a senior engineer to serve as a Project Technical Leader on our industry-leading drinking water projects in California and the West. This position offers the opportunity to lead our technical teams and work collaboratively with our project managers and technical experts on many of the largest projects on the West Coast.
The Project Technical Leader (PTL) will excel in leading the technical development of engineering projects of moderate to high complexity for implementing drinking water treatment facilities, chemical systems, pipelines, and pump stations to meet client project requirements. The PTL delivers and drives the technical vision of the project working closely with the Project Manager. The PTL is responsible for technical delivery - executing scope within the schedule, coordination of technical content, administering the quality management program, and verifying the project team has the right resources to successfully complete the project. The PTL will work closely with our clients, project managers and technical experts to meet the project objectives and requirements.
Your responsibilities:
•Develop task activities / work plans for detailed project execution.
•Lead multi-discipline teams, which may include several subconsultants in the day-to-day project coordination.
•Able to be the Engineer-of-Record for the design work.
•Collaborate with task/design leads to monitor progress and resolve technical issues.
•Review draft designs, memoranda and reports for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and best practices.
•Verify the CDM Smith quality procedures are followed and documented.
•Perform site reviews and studies, as needed, to verify designs are aligned with location constraints, requirements, and specifications.
•Update client and design requirements as necessary.
•Reports to the Project Manager and provides project progress updates and issues that need client input, decisions, or resolutions.
•Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff.
•Supervise the work of junior engineers on project work.
•Contribute to firm's Technical Knowledge Management by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc. Submit technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals.
•Collaborate with sales staff to create the technical approach for proposals.
•Meet with current and potential future clients to review their strategies, policies, regulatory requirements, impacts to their systems to understand their needs.
•Attend conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services.
•Act as the primary point of contact for external client and related industry contact.
•Collaborate with clients and government officials to clarify technical questions.
•Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
Professional engineering (PE) license.
12 years of related experience.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
