Project Manager
Job Summary:
The Cordia Phoenix team is seeking a Project Manager to be responsible for all aspects of construction project management for the Southwest Region’s district energy and cogeneration systems. Reporting directly to the Southwest Region General Manager, this role will be responsible for planningcoordinating, and executing construction projects such as extending district energy pipe to new customers and constructing district energy plants. This position will also be responsible for carrying out special projects associated with the operation, maintenance, or retrofit of the existing assets, and project management for future expansion projects.
Principle Responsibilities/Key Results Areas:
- Project Development – Coordinate with engineering, operations and external contractors to develop project scopes, justification, and key deliverables.
- Project Estimating – Develop detailed cost estimates to ensure projects are properly funded, and that monthly reforecasting is completed to allow for accurate financial reporting.
- Project Documentation – Work with procurement department to prepare bid document. Manage all project documentation including construction drawings, RFIs, submittals, and meeting minutes.
- Construction Management – Oversee onsite construction activities, coordinating with external contractors, engineering and operations to ensure safe and successful delivery of projects. Develop project master schedules and phasing approaches with input from engineering and operations. Manage project budgets by reviewing job costs, projected costs, and variance from prior month.
- Permitting – Apply for, review, resubmit and close out project permits. Coordinate with municipal inspectors to ensure project compliance to all plans, specifications and permitting requirements.
- Commissioning – Coordinate onsite commissioning activities with site operations including equipment startup, development of operational procedures, spare parts reviews, and pre-startup safety walkthroughs.
- Compliance – Ensure strict compliance to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best engineering practices for design/construction.
- Plant Support – Work closely with operations and maintenance staff regarding mechanical, piping, valves, pumps, heat exchangers, etc.
- Sales Support – Provide input on new customer interconnection requirements. Complete studies and analysis to identify optimal distribution expansion routing and configuration and develop cost estimates for possible options.
- Safety – Adhere to Cordia’s safety programs to protect your safety/health, as well as the welfare of fellow employees, contractors, and customers to achieve the objective of Zero injuries.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience & Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience serving as project lead, construction manager, or as a member of a project management team with significant demonstrated responsibility involved in the design and construction of utility, industrial, institutional, or underground water and/or steam piping projects with project costs ranging from $5 million to $50 million.
- Direct experience in the areas of cogeneration plants, central utility plants, utility distribution systems, micro grids, and PV solar/BESS a plus.
- Strong business acumen in project planning and management.
- Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills.
Knowledge & Skills
- Team player; able to work with all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of steam and water pipe distribution systems.
- Experience in the construction and operations of boilers, chillers, gas turbines, engines and ancillary equipment.
- Experience with project scheduling software, MS Project or equivalent.
- Superior interpersonal skills.
- Proven planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and work under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement and to identify problems and solutions without constant guidance.
