This is a provisional appointment.
The Public Facilities Department (PFD) provides professional project management services for design and construction projects at City-owned buildings throughout Boston. We work in conjunction with and on behalf of user agencies by managing renovation or new construction projects at buildings where City services are delivered. PFD manages a range of projects valued between $1M - $125M and typically handles an overall caseload of between 80-100 projects valued at more than $500M annually.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Operations, the Project Manager II will be responsible for the management of the department's construction projects, including larger scale and highly technical projects, from the initiation of funding to the official completion and turnover of the building.
Responsibilities:- Managing design and construction budgets, schedules, and quality.
- Managing architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and their contracts.
- Supervising Clerk of the Works.
- Training project managers.
- Assisting in designer selection and project close out.
- Working with user departments and constituents.
- Maintaining project documentation and files.
- Assisting the division in improving policies and procedures.
- Performing related work as required.
- At least five (5) years of experience in building construction management, engineering, or architecture is required.
- A minimum of four (4) years of experience in management, budgeting, and scheduling of building construction projects is preferred.
- Knowledge of construction, contract practices, and knowledge of MA Building Code, general/subcontractor relations, trade customs, MA construction statutes, Chapter 149, and regulations preferred.
- Experience working with permitting and oversight agencies preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills are preferred.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management is preferred.
- Engineering or Architectural registration is preferred.
- Appropriate educational substitutions may be made.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
