SUMMARY
We are currently seeking a Project Interior Designer to join our Capitol Project Payroll team. This full-time role will primarily work on-site days.
Purpose of this Position: This position is responsible to ensure interior projects and relocations meet and exceed the set goals for assigned projects. The project designer will develop interior design standards, furniture standards, ADA code compliance plans, and furniture refurbishment plans.
A $500 hiring incentive is available for eligible external candidates (current employees, contract/temporary workers, and former employees returning to HHS within one year are ineligible).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Project Management:
- Plan, execute, monitor, and control projects within scope, budget, quality, and schedule constraints to meet or exceed project fee goals
- Responsible for all phases of facility projects including the management of external consultants
- Team:
- Leads the project team to meet or exceed performance measures set by the department leadership, Board, and stakeholders
- Coordination of cross-functional project teams and steering committees set the pace to meet the goals of the project
- Project Initiation:
- Creates concept plans, visuals, and PowerPoint presentations for internal and external communications
- Drafts proposal requests, negotiates contract scope and fees, selects and administers contracts for professional services and consultants
- Assists with entitlement, permitting, survey, concept plans, city planning, and related activities to develop buildings
- Support community and government relations as needed to support the campus development plan
- Scope Development:
- Responsible for the development of an all-inclusive scope with stakeholder input
- Investigates existing conditions with consultants to avoid unplanned expenditures related to unknown conditions
- Schedule:
- Develop project schedules to align the project delivery process with anticipated goals
- Set schedules with a focus on life safety, speed to market, and new venture opportunities.
- Budget:
- Develops project budgets and is directly involved in the approval process
- Manages the change management process to limit unnecessary spending or scope reductions
- Manages all projects to meet or exceed budget goals with regular financial updates to stakeholders.
- Design:
- Research and recommends new technology, sustainable and low maintenance options, and an innovative approach to design
- Provides space planning services aligning with FGI and other industry standards
- Leads interior design efforts to align finishes and art with the community the hospital serves
- Assist with medical equipment planning in coordination with the bio-medical team
- Quality:
- Provides a systematic and international project delivery process that is repeatable to develop client assurance in the process
- Identifies and manages project risks and make recommendations to avoid confusion and to maintain a high level of trust
- Manages a quality assurance program to insure team accountability throughout the project delivery process
- Hold vendor accountable to compliance and safety standards to protect staff, patients, and visitors
- Construction:
- Coordinates pre-bid, pre-construction, environmental, and survey services
- Coordinates in the contractor selection process with Supply Chain Services
- Insure construction is complete within the project goals and to the satisfaction of the stakeholders
- Responsible to give direction on RFIs and change orders related to substitutions, modifications, clarifications, safety, and deficiencies
- Insure all owner related responsibilities and decisions are made within the cadence of the project
- Commissioning and Activation:
- Set interior design performance goals and participate in commissioning meetings
- Management of the fixtures, furniture, and equipment aspects of the projects
- Warrant that punch lists are complete for occupancy and grand openings
- Create and maintains interior design and furniture standards
- Train staff on new equipment, furniture, or advancements in technology
- Project Close-Out:
- Ensure purchase orders, pay applications, invoices are promptly payed prior to closing out the project with Finance
- Upload as-constructed documents, permits, and project information in the Archibus system
- Compliance:
- Complete ICRA’s, Risk Assessments, Hot Work Permits, Shut-downs, and staff look ahead notices throughout the project delivery process
- Investigates existing conditions, develops project scope, sets performance measures, identifies risks, insures quality assurance, and delivers multiple projects within schedule and project goals
- Conducts plan reviews to insure code compliance with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ), FGI, Life Safety, NFPA and ADA compliance studies
- Assess and develops studies for certification, surveys, and official patient complaints and events
- Self-motivated creative problem solver with strong organizational and communication skills both written and graphic
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Knowledge of Revit preferred, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project Schedule
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in Architecture, interior design, or closely related field
- At least 5 years of managing interior design for a healthcare organization
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree
- PMP: Project Management Professional - certification
- CHID: Certified Healthcare Interior Designer - certification
- LEED: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design - certification

- Architecture or Interior Design Healthcare
- Strong knowledge in project management processes and tools
- Maintains knowledge of industry trends and designs around modern technology and workplace trends

- Strong estimating and capital planning skills

License/Certifications:
- Certified Healthcare Constructor required within 1 year of hire as a condition of continued employment, if less than 5 years’ experience in healthcare
