Job Description
As a Project Geotechnical Engineer within our Geostructures department you will be thrusted into a dynamic daily routine that blends fieldwork, analysis, and collaboration with other engineering professionals. You'll deal with the design, analysis and construction of structures like retaining walls, foundations, tunnels, and earth dams. Your daily routine can vary depending on whether you are primarily working in the office or the field. This might look like: team meetings, client meetings, reviewing geotechnical reports, design calculations, site visits, field inspections, monitoring instrumentation, lab analysis, reporting, design work, on-site problem solving, soil and material testing, report writing, design reviews and revisions, coordinating with other disciplines, and project management tasks.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Geotechnical design and analysis related to foundations, soil improvement, embankments, shoring, and retaining walls such as slope stability, resistance of lateral loads, settlement, bearing capacity, and seepage
- Supervise related field activities and crews to gather geotechnical site characterization data
- Project/Task management and proposal preparation support
- Evaluate routine laboratory and field data for inclusion in analysis, design, and reports
- Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, construction drawings, technical specifications, and permit applications
- Review post-bid construction plans to ensure adherence to project specifications and requirements
- Collaborate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met
- Demonstrate initiative and leadership in problem-solving and decision-making process
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development to enhance skills and expertise
- Utilize remote collaboration tools to effectively manage and communicate with team members and clients
Minimum Skill Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in civil or Geotechnical Engineering
- Professional Engineer License (P.E. in SC, NC, TN, GA or able to obtain a P.E. within 6 months)
- 4+ years of geotechnical experience with an emphasis in design and development of geotechnical deliverables including investigation and design reports, drawings, and specifications
- Strong analytical and report writing
- Advanced project management and organizational experience
- Intermediate experience in geotechnical software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, GeoStudio, RocScience, LPILE, and MSE retaining wall software).
- Field experience and familiarity with construction sites
- Self-motivation and ability to manage time and priorities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's or advanced degree in civil or geotechnical engineering
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Able to work occasional weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
Travel:
- Must travel to the Greenville, SC office location on a monthly basis and have the ability to travel to client sites on occasion.
