Job Summary:
Responsible for the project management team that manages a wide variety of control systems projects; from proposal generation through closeout. Serves as the risk manager for a portfolio of projects. Ensures projects are delivered to meet Thermo Systems strategic goals regarding customer experience, and employee and financial success. Undertakes executive support for multiple strategic projects within a set portfolio. Works with engineering managers and business development to forecast upcoming project staffing requirements.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science; Engineering or other pertinent curriculum combined with relevant experience.
- Typically, 10+ years total experience with at least 10+ years as a project manager.
- Proven Track Record: 5+ years as previous level.
- Project Management Professional or equivalent certification.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recruit, train, mentor and supervise Project Managers assigned.
- Evaluates incoming project needs and assigns project manager responsibilities accordingly.
- Communicate in an effective, positive, and proactive manner with staff members, customers and trade partners.
- Supports Business Development team in identifying project management personnel for upcoming work.
- Shows initiative by seeking out new responsibilities.
- Maintains relationships with project executives of owners, general contractors, trade partners, and design firms.
- Exhibit proficiency in Microsoft operating systems and Office tools.
- Understands control system design and how it interfaces with other systems.
- Understands electrical and mechanical system design and how decisions can impact process and safety.
- Practice procedures outlined in the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) daily.
- Enhanced knowledge of contracting practices and project accounting.
- Consistently champions safety policies in the office and the field.
- Has an open mind, especially with opposing viewpoints.
- Adapts to changing demands of the situation with a sense of urgency.
- Understands and ensures that quality requirements are upheld.
- Works to improve project management skills throughout Thermo Systems through involvement with new and existing training programs.
Project Management Responsibilities:
- Risk Manager for the portfolio of projects assigned.
- Monthly review and approval of Cost to Complete Reports prior to submission to finance team.
- Monthly review and approval of project forecasts and projections submitted by project managers.
- Supports project managers assigned to deliver projects at or above gross profit percentage sold.
- First level of support for escalation by project managers.
- Coordinates with colleagues for project resource assignments.
- Ensures that assigned project managers complete tasks accurately, on schedule, and under budget.
- Understands the projects assigned, identifies when issues arise and effectively supports the project manager to resolve those issues with customer and team.
- Seeks opportunities for new work with customers and trade partners.
- Understands and anticipates customer needs.
- Monitors client expectations and supports the project manager in exceeding those expectations.
- Accurately estimates the duration and difficulty of tasks.
- Ensures the project managers create and adhere to a realistic schedule and budget.
- Participates in review and administration of change orders.
- Demonstrates an awareness of project contracts and specifications.
- Provide strategic guidance to project managers during buyout phase of the project including subcontractors and major equipment purchase.
- Promotes a positive/collaborative team culture.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly responsible for the growth and development of the project managers assigned.
- Monthly review and approval of time records for direct reports.
- Lead one on one and performance reviews of direct reports assigned.
- Identify shortages in project management staffing needs and escalate to supervisor.
- Participate in recruiting when required and submit final recommendation for offer to supervisor for approval.
- Directly responsible for individual team budget assigned for training and team building.
- Where applicable, directs and oversees junior or subordinate staff members regarding construction, operations, and/or maintenance tasks and assignments at a project site.

Travel Required:
- As required, expected to be 25-50%.
Work Authorization/Other Requirements:
- Proof of eligibility to work in the country where the position is located is required.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license.
