Position Title: Construction Estimator
Job Summary: As a Construction Estimator, you will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs associated with construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and overhead expenses. You will work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information and develop comprehensive cost estimates. Your expertise in analyzing blueprints, specifications, and other project documents will be essential in producing accurate estimates that meet project requirements and budgetary constraints.
Responsibilities:
- Review project plans, specifications, and other documents to understand the scope of work and project requirements.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders to gather information necessary for cost estimation, including material quantities, labor requirements, equipment needs, and subcontractor quotes.
- Analyze project blueprints and drawings to determine the quantities of materials and labor hours required for each phase of construction.
- Utilize construction estimating software and tools to perform take-offs, calculate costs, and generate detailed estimates.
- Research and source materials, equipment, and subcontractor services to obtain competitive pricing and ensure accuracy in cost estimates.
- Prepare and present cost estimates, proposals, and bid packages to clients, contractors, and project teams.
- Identify and quantify potential risks and uncertainties in cost estimates and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Update and maintain databases of material costs, labor rates, and supplier information to ensure accuracy and currency of estimating data.
- Collaborate with project managers and other team members to refine estimates, address changes in project scope, and ensure alignment with project objectives.
- Participate in pre-construction meetings, site visits, and negotiations to clarify project requirements and resolve any issues related to cost estimation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred.
- Proven experience as a construction estimator, preferably in commercial, residential, or civil construction projects.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and building codes.
- Familiarity with construction estimating software and tools, such as Bluebeam, RSMeans, or Sage Estimating.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, clients, and subcontractors.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate and address challenges in cost estimation.
- Professional certifications, such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or Certified Construction Estimator (CCE), a plus.
Working Conditions: Construction Estimators typically work in an office environment but may also visit construction sites or attend meetings with clients and subcontractors as needed. The job may involve occasional travel and exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
