Client:
Our client is an Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractor specializing in the installation of utility substations, power generation and industrial facilities. Utilizing a team of in-house project managers, construction managers, and engineers, they successfully manage the execution of the engineering, procurement, and construction of a multitude of projects. Engineering is executed via subcontract with AE firms. In-house engineering activities serve as preliminary engineering design and act as critical oversight of the subcontracted engineering firms.

Job Description:
Immediate need for a Project Engineering Manager who has extensive experience in managing engineering teams on large scale utility projects such as high voltage substations and other utility transmission system projects. The Project Engineering Manager primarily leads the internal and external (subcontractor) design team through the successful completion of the engineering phase of the project. The Project Engineering Manager shall be responsible for the direct oversight of the execution of engineering and design. The successful candidate shall also support the Director of Engineering in the areas of subcontractor management, development of project reports, and development of internal project budgets.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the coordination and review of engineering subcontractors, identifying design issues, and monitoring progress of all deliverables and activities, and ensure that reports, plans and other deliverables are compliant with all project contract documents and requirements.
• Work with internal engineering team to oversee the engineering subcontractor’s work scope to ensure that the engineering effort is completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget.
• Coordinate design review activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
• Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations and drawing preparation.
• Independently coordinate directly with subcontractor’s lead engineers to resolve open design points and ensure conformance to project specifications
• Participate in Client coordination meetings
• Lead and participate in discipline specific Client design reviews and coordination.
• Evaluate Client requirements and author clarifications and exceptions to RFPs, design basis documents, project execution plans, and electrical scopes of work.

• Support proposal efforts including writing and editing reports, design criteria documentation, and developing bid packages.
• The position is based in the Paramus, NJ office. Travel to subcontractor’s office(s) and construction site on a regular basis is expected as needed through project execution.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 15 years of high voltage substation and similar utility scale transmission and substation projects including design engineering experience with a track record of achievement on large complex projects.
• Experience on EPC projects for the installation of utility and substation equipment and associated subsystems.
• Strong background in engineering management
• Experience as a lead design engineer on multiple projects.
• Ability to collaborate with project team members and client entities, demonstrating the leadership capabilities to ensure a successful project
• Demonstrated experience leading engineers to provide designs that are compliant with Client requirements and completed on time and on budget.
• Excellent written and oral skills are required
• P.E. license is not required, but preferred. A fast track to obtaining a license is preferred.

Education:
Bachelors in Engineering, MBA, Master’s in Construction Management or similar continuing education
