Role Description

Reporting to the Engineering Director, the Project Engineer - Mechanical will play a crucial role in planning, coordinating, and executing projects across various stages of product development and manufacturing processes. They will provide technical leadership within the Engineering team to support new product development and legacy product improvements. Responsible for providing leadership and creativity in the design, development, organization, implementation, and sourcing of designs and components.

Job Responsibilities

• Monitor the execution (achievements/timeline/investments/actuals) of manufacturing and design projects and provide regular reports on project status to project team and key stakeholders

• Provide scope development, technical support and leadership for engineered solutions

• Consistently visualizes entire scope of a project with very little guidance

• Schedules, develops agendas, facilitates and documents project meetings

• Lead cross-functional team to deliver program objectives, facilitate timely problem solving and decision-making, and function as a technical lead

• Assists with completion of the New Product Development stage gate requirements

• Design and produce creative solutions in a fast paced and cross functional environment

• Follow established procedures for creation and maintenance of CAD databases and libraries.

• Prepare written documentation of processes, material requirements, test results and project activity as required 

• Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with other business functions

• Support supply chain and quality assurance with first article inspection reports and design changes to meet changing supplier specifications

• Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis on the new and existing products

• Provide Engineering support to Sales/Marketing and Manufacturing on new and existing products and processes.

• Construct and test prototype components or assemblies as required in the development and approval process.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Excellent organization skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects and report progress and necessary corrective actions

• Proficient with Microsoft Project, Solidworks or Autodesk Inventor, MS Office, and data management concepts

• Demands attention to detail with project scheduling and reporting

• Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the company, both written and verbal, and competency presenting testing results

• Desire to work on projects demanding fast prototyping and production startups

• Ability to do field product testing

• Must be able to lift 25-50 lbs

• Capable of operating hand tools while working on a ladder

• 5+ years’ project or product management experience

• Experience taking multiple concurrent projects from concept to launch

• Familiarity with a new product development stage gate system

• BSME or equivalent engineering degree preferred
