Our client is looking for a Project Accountant to manage the financial operations of multiple construction projects. The Project accountant will work alongside Accounting leaders and the owners invest in their employees.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$60k – $70k
Position Overview:
This role is crucial in ensuring project profitability, maintaining accurate financial records, and providing financial insights to project teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, financial reporting, and budget management, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
Responsibilities of the Project Accountant:
- The Project Accountant will monitor and track all project-related expenses, ensuring they align with approved budgets and report any discrepancies.
- Review and approve vendor invoices, subcontractor payments, and purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
- The Project Accountant will maintain detailed and up-to-date financial records for each project, including tracking change orders and cost adjustments.
- Assist project managers in the development and maintenance of project budgets, providing ongoing updates and ensuring adherence to financial goals.
- Conduct financial forecasting and provide variance analysis to highlight deviations from the budget, offering solutions for corrective action.
- The Project Accountant will prepare and present detailed financial reports for projects, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
- Ensure accurate month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciling project financials and coordinating with internal and external auditors.
- Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and other departments to align financial data with project performance and overall objectives.
- The Project Accountant will ensure compliance with contract terms related to billing milestones, payment schedules, and subcontractor obligations, including lien waivers.
- Manage the accounts payable and receivable process, ensuring timely invoicing and collections.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, streamlining cost tracking and reporting procedures using accounting software and project management tools.
Qualifications for the Project Accountant:
- 3+ years of experience in project accounting, preferably within the construction industry.
- Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong understanding of construction project financials, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
