- 3-5 yrs experience in project accounting
- Subcontractor background and cost-plus contract experience (huge plus)
- Project Controller background if from smaller construction company

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Project Accountant/Senior Project Accountant to join our dynamic construction team. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting skills combined with a deep understanding of project management principles. This role will be responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of construction projects, ensuring accurate budgeting, cost tracking, and timely reporting.
Responsibilities
- Assist with preparing and analyzing project budgets as well as project billings in regards to contract requirements
- Assess project costs vs. project budgets and analyze financial reports
- Monitor project expenses and track costs of labor, materials, and overhead expenses.
- Ensure compliance with insurance, lien waivers, vendors, W-9s and retention.
- Handle cost-plus contracts and preparation of status reports.
- Utilize Sage and Procore to set up new projects and perform monthly job review.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and project progress reports for management review.
- Maintain accurate project accounting records, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards.
- Generate ad hoc financial reports and analysis as requested by stakeholders.
- Assist in the preparation of tax filings and other regulatory compliance requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field ideal but not required
- 3+ years of experience in project accounting or related role within the construction industry
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage ideal
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of construction industry regulations and practices is a plus.
