About the Job
The Project Accountant is the primary liaison between Operations and Accounting, and provides Operations with information necessary to complete a project within budget. The Project Accountant has immediate responsibility for administering all fiscal activities associated with Company projects, which includes among other duties contract billings to customers, payments to subcontractors and suppliers, and development of project cost forecasts. (Not a remote position)
Areas of Responsibility:
- Participate in pre-construction meetings that deal with the project budget, schedule of values, and payment schedules
- Review contracts and identify contractual terms for purposes of customer invoicing
- Setup projects for billing in Excel and Sage 300 CRE software
- Create any necessary billing forms and documents
- Prelien new jobs and confirm lien rights, including change orders, are always protected
- Create insurance certs per customer requests
- Maintain and publish Master Billing Projections Budget monthly
- Ensure that customer billings occur on schedule and in conformity with contract requirements
- Confirm the accuracy of payment applications
- Prepare and submit billings to customers
- Anticipate dates of payment of customer billings, and ascertain reasons for any delays affecting expectations
- Audit subcontractor and supplier invoices, and schedule them for approval and payment
- Obtain waivers of lien rights prior to making payments to subcontractors and suppliers
- Pay subcontractor and supplier invoices
- Create initial Cost at Completion (“CAC”) forecasts
- Participate in monthly CAC meetings with Project Managers and Senior Management
- Identify budget variances in CAC forecasts, and resolve related issues with the project management team
- Upload approved CAC data to Job Cost records
- Complete special projects as directed by the CFO
- Evaluate processes and procedures related to this position in the context of continuous improvement
Required Education/Experience:
- Associate degree with a concentration in accounting
- Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Project Accountant for a general contractor in the construction industry. Experience in Multi-Family Housing space highly desirable.
- Substantial experience with all project-related components of Construction ERP software, including Contracts, Billing, Accounts Payable, Project Management, and Job Cost modules. Experience with Sage 300CRE a plus.
- Thorough knowledge of lien laws in the Western United States

- Ability to effectively employ all elements of Microsoft Office software, and especially proficient in the use of Excel
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Physical Demands:

The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and infrequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. This job requires repetitive motion with word processing and data entry. Moderate phone use is required at times, and the noise level is usually typical for a business office environment.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000
