Under minimal supervision, and in compliance with company policy, the Programming and Automation Engineer will execute programming and automation projects and tasks. Develop new automation systems that decrease time, improve quality, and eliminate or reduce safety risks. This individual will work closely with Management and Production, performing work related to equipment and processes needed to support the development of advanced manufacturing processes for pressure relief products
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Lead the efforts to develop new process technology to support the manufacture of new and existing products.
· Develop automation systems internally or with 3rd party assistance when required.
· Create necessary CAD models, BOMs, and drawings to construct automated systems.
· Ensure an automation system is designed and programmed to create a safe work environment for Production staff.
· Create LabVIEW programs to monitor and/or control processes.
· Create ladder logic-based PLC programs to monitor and/or control processes.
· Program and configure HMIs to monitor and/or control processes.
· Create software to obtain and analyze operational data using SQL, MS Access, and Python.
· Work with robotics platforms as required for automation system development and deployment.
· Write and update manufacturing procedures and engineering procedures.
· Troubleshoot existing automated systems and machines.
· Design tools, dies and equipment as needed.
· Provide training for production personnel on new manufacturing processes.
· Perform other duties as assigned, based on workload and business need.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Education: BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or other related discipline.
· Experience: Prefer 3 years’ experience in programming, automation, mechanical design, and tooling design.
TECHNICAL / FUNCTION SPECIFIC:
· LabVIEW programming experience, certification is a plus.
· PLC configuration and ladder logic programming experience.
· Knowledge of common industrial communication protocols: ASCII Serial, Modbus, Ethernet I/P, and OPC UA.
· Python or similar scripting knowledge and experience.
· SQL knowledge and experience.
· Universal Robotics basic and advanced training or similar collaborative robotics platform.
· 3D and 2D CAD/CAM experience, SolidWorks is preferred.
· Ability to design and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
· Operational knowledge of industrial machinery, including but not limited to, lathes, mills, and presses.
· Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.
· Knowledge of common industrial sensors and actuators.
· Ability to use inspection tools and measurement devices, including but not limited to, calipers and micrometers.
· Advanced math skills.
· Reading skills sufficient to interpret specifications and datasheets.
· Effective verbal and written communication skills.
· Knowledge of applicable engineering and certification standards and codes.
· Computer skills sufficient to use company ERP system and Microsoft Windows and Office, including MS Project, and MS
Access.
· Linux operating system experience is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Motor skills sufficient to successfully use a computer and any required inspection tools, measurement devices and
manufacturing equipment.
· Ability to sit for extended periods of time as needed, up to 8 hours per day, though possibly more.
· Frequently required to stand and/or walk, up to 6 hours per day, and make frequent trips from the office area to the manufacturing area.
· Ability to independently lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
· Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment when in the manufacturing area, including, but not limited to,
safety glasses and safety shoes and hearing protection.
