GENERAL PURPOSE:
The UR Health Lab is the health system's digital health incubator and is transforming the way data science is being used in medicine by developing novel tools that capture new data streams, analyze previously unseen patterns and enable health care providers to provide individualized treatments that are more responsive, effective and precise. The programmer/analyst senior will work with a team of data analysts, data scientists, and clinicians to leverage big data and artificial intelligence to develop new clinical decision support systems improving the care delivered in our community as well as to measure the impact of digital innovation on the quality, experience, and cost of care delivery.
Primary goals of this position include:
+ Provides data analysis and insights to key leadership to enable data-driven decision-making.
+ Serves as an institutional subject matter expert and resource for advanced analytics.
+ Develops knowledge generation pathways from complex data sets using data science methods.
Primary responsibilities of the position include:
+ Maintains in-depth knowledge of Epic data sources, including Clarity and Caboodle.
+ Works collaboratively with faculty, senior leadership and other stakeholders to understand their vision and requirements, and develop analytics solutions to meet their needs.
**RESPONSIBILITIES:**
Provides data analysis and insights to stakeholders to enable data-driven research projects and decision making
+ Translates complex data into insights and compelling stories
+ Presents data models, analyses, and visuals (including dynamic visuals such as dashboards) to internal and external stakeholders. Iterates and refines based on feedback.
Engages with stakeholders to identify needs and opportunities for analytics support
+ Works with project director and end-users to understand project requirements
+ Understands underlying clinical and research requirements and formulates, designs, and executes analytical solutions to support them
Develops advanced analytics to address complex problems
+ Analyzes and models structured data and implements algorithms to support analysis using advanced statistical and mathematical methods
+ Develops and implements robust, reproducible processes to prepare, extract, and enrich a variety of structured and unstructured data sources
Supplies data to teammates and end users from various data sources including the EHR
+ Cleans and manipulates data so that it is in a usable format for others
+ Creates data marts and data warehouses to support advanced reporting scenarios
+ Links data from multiple sources and stores it in a format that is easy to query
Helps develop machine learning (ML) capabilities
+ Offers subject matter expertise on ML and related analytic approaches
+ Completes agile development of data models, ML pipelines, dashboards, and reporting
+ Cultivates new data sources to offer insights and analyses needed for research and decision-making
Continuing Education
+ Maintains current knowledge base and expertise relative to the technology and software used by related to the EHR and functional areas being supported

**QUALIFICATIONS:**
+ Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Information Sciences or equivalent required;
+ Graduate degree preferred.
+ years of related experience working with large datasets, data analysis and reporting required.
+ Or equivalent combination of education and experience required;
+ Strong attention to detail, ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems, and strong critical thinking skills strongly preferred.
+ Strong analytic, qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills, with demonstrated ability to break down complex problems into phased deliverables strongly preferred.
+ Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, including the ability to describe data science concepts to lay/nonexpert audiences preferred.
+ Experience with relational databases preferred.
+ Proficiency with Python (or R), including common machine/deep learning libraries and their implementation preferred
+ Fluency with data visualization tools, such as Tableau, Spotfire or PowerBI preferred.
+ Ability to work independently and successfully complete assigned tasks on time with oversight required
