Position Description December 2024
Program Specialist, Residential Energy Efficiency and Electrification
Hybrid position, ideally located in eastern Massachusetts
Want to join a company that does good for the world? Do you care about the work you do and its impact on the future of our planet? Do you want caring coworkers and a good work/life balance? Join the Abode Energy Management (Abode) team, where you won’t ever want to leave. We’re fun, kind, passionate, progressive, and innovative. We are a fast-growing energy efficiency program implementor in the northeast, focusing on electrification and heat pump adoption.
Summary/Objective
Abode currently oversees ~two dozen home improvement contractors (“Trade Allies”) participating in the residential segment of the utility-sponsored Mass Save program, who provide weatherization services (e.g., air sealing and insulation) to homeowners. Over the coming year, Abode will engage with a broader network of Trade Allies under a new Mass Save offering called Turnkey, which will provide subsidized services to moderate-income homeowners to remove roadblocks and enable homeowners to move forward with both weatherization and electrification measures (such as installing heat pumps) to improve comfort and reduce the energy required for heating and cooling.
This position reviews documentation submitted by Trade Allies and Abode field inspectors at a number of points throughout the process (from initial scoping to completion) to help ensure compliance with program requirements, and ultimately, quality installations and a great customer experience. This is a terrific opportunity for someone with hands-on experience with the Mass Save program who is looking to apply that knowledge in an independent, office-based role to assure quality installs. The right candidate for this position will be someone who gets satisfaction from paying close attention to detail but with the ability to step back and focus on the ones that matter most.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Field Operations Manager and working closely with other Abode office staff and field inspectors, this position will include some or all of the following responsibilities:
· Technical Review of Projects
The bulk of the Program Specialist’s time will be spent reviewing documentation submitted both by Trade Allies and by Abode field inspectors, focused on checking and approving work scopes, inspection reports, and other related project documents in a timely fashion for adherence to the Mass Save program’s technical specifications, building science principles, and feasibility.
The Program Specialist will check for incorrect or incomplete data across multiple software programs and correct issues before the project reaches invoicing.
As time permits, the Program Specialist may identify trends from such reviews to help the Field Operations Manager make improvements to the overall work processes.
· Trade Ally Support
The Program Specialist will assist in responding to calls and emails as needed to facilitate timely responses to Trade Ally and Inspectors' questions.
· Back Office Support
The Program Specialist will provide support to other office staff as needed with priority requests and projects.
· Other
Abode anticipates updating the responsibilities of this position over time to incorporate the use of AI or other tools that might be able to help us better prioritize where it is most worthwhile to focus manual reviews of such documentation. The right candidate for this position will help inform and adapt to useful evolutions of the position’s responsibilities to help the company hit key performance metrics aimed at improving overall customer experience.
Qualifications
Strong candidates for this position will bring most, if not all, of the following skills and experience:
· Previous experience working hands-on with some element of Mass Save or similar residential energy efficiency programs is highly desirable for this position.
· Some knowledge of residential construction and/or building science is required.
· Demonstrated aptitude with software such as Microsoft Office, Excel and Salesforce. Comfortable finding and presenting data clearly and logically, working across software programs as needed.
· Detail-oriented, good math skills, ability to multitask; able to methodically keep track of many moving pieces within an overall rubric of detailed program rules.
· Previous experience in a high-volume transactional role where it was important to balance maintaining throughput while adhering to quality standards.
· Clear, effective, structured oral and written communications skills.
· Adaptable, flexible, collaborative team player who brings a positive can-do attitude.
· A self-starter, able to proactively manage competing demands and changing schedules to complete tasks in a timely and diligent manner.
· Associate’s degree or higher and/or comparable knowledge gained through relevant experience.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, exempt position with total compensation targeted between $65K and $75K, depending on relevant skills and experience. The Program Specialist will work most of the time out of their own home, with some travel as needed to work with other staff in Abode’s Concord office and/or to attend events or meetings.
