TITLE: Program Assistant – Immigration Legal Services
REPORTS TO: Senior Attorneys and Program Director
CLASSIFICATION: Part-time (20 hours/week), on-site

Overview of Amigos’ Immigration Legal Services Program
Amigos’ Immigration Legal Services (“ILS”) provides low-cost legal services to the immigrant community in East San José and more broadly to the entire Santa Clara County. The ILS team currently consists of two full-time immigration attorneys, who primarily focus on affirmative family-based and humanitarian forms of relief.
Overview of Position
The ILS Program Assistant will work closely with attorneys to fulfill the goal of delivering high-quality legal services to new and existing clients by providing administrative support. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable handling sensitive information, and committed to immigrants’ rights. English-Spanish proficiency is required as the majority of Amigos’ clients are monolingual Spanish speakers.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist attorneys in preparing cases to be filed with USCIS and EOIR (immigration court), which routinely includes:
- Filling out forms
- Following up with clients to gather information or supportive evidence
- Translating civil documents or affidavits
- Organizing and assembling application packets
- Mailing out applications
- Process all incoming mail
- Screen calls prior to consultation with an attorney
Other Expectations
- Participate in regular staff meetings, staff training programs, supervisory meetings, and any agency-wide events
- Adhere to agency policies and procedures
- Perform any other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
- Associate’s Degree (at a minimum)
- Demonstrated written and spoken Spanish-language fluency
- Previous experience working in an immigration law program or law firm (preferred)
- Ability to meticulously follow instructions and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and written skills
- Ability to work with culturally diverse individuals
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
