The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Department is looking for a Variable Hour Program Assistant III who can work up to 20 hours a week. This is a one-year temporary position with the potential for renewed funding. It is anticipated that the hours will be worked during regular business hours, Monday through Thursday, with a consistent schedule to be decided upon with the supervisor.

Hybrid Telework
At this time, this position is designated as “hybrid telework.” You will have the option to work away from the office, although there may be times that coming into the office will be required. The manager will work with you to identify a schedule that balances the operational needs of the department and your needs. Employees must reside in Oregon or Washington to work at Metro.

As a member of the DEI Department, you will support the advancement and implementation of various Metro programs and policies, including but not limited to the following:
- Strategic Plan to Advance Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
- Civic Engagement Grants Program
- Committee on Racial Equity
- Construction Career Pathways
- Leadership Development and Training
As the Program Assistant III you will:
- Coordinate specific project activities within the DEI Department, including research assignments, creating and maintaining project files, and tracking contracts, invoices, and grant payments.
- Support the development of project informational and instructional documents, process and procedural requirements, finalizing report copy edits, presentations, and project updates.
- Conduct research and compile summary reports.
- Schedule and coordinate complex logistics for in-person, hybrid, and virtual meetings, webinars, and special events. Work may include reserving locations, sending event/meeting notices, preparing materials, coordinating attendees, drafting agendas, meeting setup, providing technical support during meetings, drafting minutes, and more.
- Provide a wide array of committee support, including preparing meeting packets and managing records per the retention schedule, producing meeting minutes, and emailing pre- and post-meeting communications.
- Maintain filing organization for multiple program areas within the department.
- Assist in general department administrative functions and communications and liaise with internal departments or other agencies.
- Demonstrated familiarity with progressive social change practices, particularly in racial justice and related fields (e.g., poverty, labor/employment, environmental justice, criminal justice, immigration, education, health care, food justice, reproductive justice, LGBTQIA2S+ rights, etc.).
- Ability to embrace and adapt to changes in the work environment.
- Ability to manage time, organize workload, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and prioritize work to meet project goals.
- Ability to be punctual and maintain regular attendance, with high dependability and reliability.
- Enjoy problem-solving and collaborating.
- Ability to conduct research, collect data, and evaluate information on DEI program and policy topics.
- Ability to communicate effectively by written, spoken, and electronic means to other employees, organizations, and the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, committee members, and the public.
- Experience coordinating meeting and event logistics.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of office management and work organization.
- Ability to establish and maintain filing and record-keeping systems.
- Proficiency with Zoom, Adobe Professional, and Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.

- A High school diploma or G.E.D.; or
- Any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the job.

- Work experience addressing racial equity issues and analysis of systems of oppression.
- Demonstrated progressively responsible experience in an administrative support capacity for managers or complex teams.
- Prior experience working in a government entity.
- Experience supporting program staff and subject matter experts.
- Advanced experience using Microsoft software (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams) and Adobe Professional.
