About the Job
Growing insurance Company has an immediate opening for a P&C Insurance Program accountant
with an insurance/reinsurance background in our northern Puerto Rico office. This is the perfect
opportunity for someone who is dedicated and passionate about insurance accounting to develop
their career at a rapidly growing company! The position is responsible for all accounting tasks for
insurance and reinsurance companies, which include recording premiums and losses, along with
applying cash relating to open receivables and financial reporting. This position will be assigned a
book of business and will interact with other departments.
Job Responsibilities:
• Process all Premium and cash activity for assigned programs
• Interact with business unit and underwriters to verify premium and commission
• Update premium receivables for all assigned programs
• Process cash received monthly and apply to the open premium receivable balances
• Calculate reinsurance transactions according to contracts
• Prepare Reinsurance statements
• Process all Reinsurance related cash activity and update applicable sub-ledgers
• Prepare monthly reconciliation of sub-ledgers to general ledger
• Correspond with various teams on discrepancies regarding premiums, cash payments, and
commission differences.
• Prepare manual adjustments for month and quarter closing processes
• Produce P&Ls for the respective business assigned
• Assist with financial audits when applicable
• Handle all special projects and financial analysis as assigned by management
Required Skills/Experience:
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to improve and evaluate processes to identify opportunities for improvement
Desired Skills/Experience
• 2+ years' experience working in Accounting/Finance with emphasis on the
insurance/reinsurance industry
Education:
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
