Basic Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required, along with at least 15 years of proven leadership experience; or a Master's degree with a minimum of 13 years of demonstrated leadership.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
A Department of Defense Secret security clearance is mandatory at the time of hire. Selected applicants will undergo a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility criteria for access to classified information. U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.
Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems is seeking a Strategy and Business Development Director for our Progeny Systems Business Area, focusing on torpedo electronics, sonar, combat systems, and more, primarily for the US Navy and DoD contractors. This role reports to the Vice President of Strategy and Business Development and aims to enhance organizational performance in national defense.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
- Lead business development for the Progeny systems portfolio, partnering with the Business Area VP.
- Maintain relationships with current and potential customers.
- Evaluate and manage new business opportunities and partnerships.
- Oversee market analysis and identify customer needs.
- Mentor capture managers and may serve as capture manager for specific opportunities.
- Define vision and strategies for business development.
- Assist in advertising campaigns and approve promotional activities.
- Advise management on business development opportunities.
- Manage schedules, performance requirements, and budgets.
- Provide leadership in strategic business objectives.
- Identify strategic issues affecting growth and profitability.
- Monitor market opportunities and trends.
- Develop and track profitability and growth targets.
- Drive analysis of market data for strategic direction.
- Direct long-range objectives and annual strategic planning.
- Control planning, staffing, budgeting, and method changes.
- Manage personnel, including performance evaluations and succession planning.
- Responsible for hiring and firing decisions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Extensive experience in developing successful business growth strategies.
- Proven track record in securing large capture efforts in the Progeny Systems market.
- Broad market awareness, including budgets and competitive landscape.
- Strong knowledge of government contracting practices.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
- Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Ability to build relationships with senior customers and internal teams.
- Basic understanding of international business processes.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
- Collaborate with senior managers on strategic plans.
- Make final decisions on business matters with the Executive Team.
- Participate in developing project evaluation criteria.
- Ensure budgets and schedules align with company requirements.
- Address complex issues requiring in-depth company knowledge.
- Regularly interact with executives and major customers.
- Conduct briefings for senior management and external representatives.
- Influence senior leaders on significant organizational matters.
- Impact overall objectives and long-term goals of the organization.
- Visible performance metrics at GDMS and business line levels.
- Decisions can significantly affect company operations.
This position can be remote, hybrid, or based in DC, VA, or MA.

Target salary range: USD $251,145.00/Yr. - USD $271,747.00/Yr. Actual pay may vary based on experience and location. This job posting will remain open until filled.
