The Boston University Questrom School of Business invites applications for the position of Professor of the Practice in Management. The start date for this position is early 2025, if possible, or July 1, 2025 at the latest. Professor of the Practice appointments are reserved for distinguished practitioners in their profession who seek a transition to teaching or service leadership that advances the University and School.
With this Professor of the Practice position, the Questrom School of Business is looking for a recognized thought leader to serve as Executive Director of the Human Resource Policy Institute (HRPI). The ideal candidate will also complement our faculty’s excellence in academic research and classroom teaching and help drive the transformation of business education we believe is necessary to remain relevant and competitive in the new economy. This is a faculty appointment at the Questrom School of Business with the primary focus being on expanding the size and impact of HRPI through membership cultivation, program development, and thought leadership.
Key requirements for the role include:
• C-suite leadership experience as CHRO, Chief People Officer, or similar senior leadership role in the HR profession
• Strong social capital and diverse network among other senior HR leaders
• Wide-ranging expertise in a key aspect of HR (e.g., M&A, executive compensation, technology-enabled HR, future of work)
• Demonstrated commitment to furthering the profession of human resources
• Interest in supporting a strong internal membership community in HRPI as well as building new connections with Boston University, Questrom School of Business, and New England business communities
• Capabilities in developing and teaching courses on HR and management-related topics
HRPI Background
The HRPI at Boston University Questrom School of Business was founded in 1981. Its Mission is to:
• Harness the power of people to inspire, impact, and innovate modern HR policy and practice.
• Contribute to the development of links between the business community and the Questrom School of Business with respect to the management of human resources.
• Provide an opportunity for faculty and corporate members to become involved in joint activities around common interests.
HRPI is primarily a membership community of C-suite human resources executives from Fortune 500 and other Boston-area companies who are interested in advancing the field of HR. HRPI meetings bring together members and researchers for two days each spring and fall to discuss leading-edge human resource matters and to network with fellow HR executives and scholars. Meetings are organized around an overarching topic in HR and feature leading experts from academia, consulting, and the corporate sectors relevant to this topic.

Required Skills
Prospective candidates should have a record of distinguished achievement in senior roles in the corporate world, and a graduate degree (MBA or equivalent at a minimum; PhD desirable).
