The New World Symphony (NWS), is a laboratory for generating new ideas about the way music is taught, presented and experienced. Under the direction of Artistic Director Stéphane Denève, its unique fellowship program trains music school graduates for leadership roles in the field of classical music. Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY
As a member of the NWS Production staff, assist in high-quality execution of production logistics (specializing in lighting) for events, performances, and other activities at the New World Center for both New World Symphony and its external partners and rental clients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
55%: Performance and Event Logistics
- As directed by the Technical Director and the Director of Lighting, work closely with other production staff in timely execution of production logistics and operations including load-in, setup, operation, changeover, tear-down, and load-out of stage equipment (including staging, lighting, audio, and video systems) for rehearsals, events, and performances for both New World Symphony and external/rental clients and partners held at the New World Center, as well as for NWS events and productions elsewhere in the Miami area and on domestic and international tours.
- As directed by the Technical Director and the Director of Lighting, assist in all lighting hang & focus, programming, and other lighting/electrics work calls; serve as light board programmer/operator for selected productions and events; operate follow spots as necessary.
20%: Lighting Programming, Board operation and possible design opportunities on 3rd party events
- As directed by the Technical Director and the Director of Lighting, perform show lighting Programming and Board operation of select scheduled events, as well as performing lighting design for 3rd party events when needed
20%: Equipment and Facility Maintenance
- As directed by the Technical Director and the Director of Lighting, assist in the regular maintenance and operation of all lighting equipment within the New World Center
5%: Administrative/Other Duties
- Participate in weekly departmental and other production meetings
- Assist in other departmental projects and support other team members as necessary and required
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in show production or another related field; minimum of one to three years of relevant experience at an event production company, music school, orchestra, touring company or other performing arts organization; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Advanced knowledge and demonstrated skill with theatrical lighting equipment specifically intelligent and moving head fixtures, GrandMA2 lighting consoles, lighting networking including DMX, sACN, and artNET protocols.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately read and understand relevant lighting paperwork including but not limited to plots, sections, channel hookups, and instrument schedules
- Demonstrated skill with Vectorworks 2021 or newer & Lightwright 6 software
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 suite and Google Suite
- Demonstrated working knowledge of three-phase power and related systems
- General knowledge of performance and event conventions and vocabulary
- Basic knowledge of Audio/Video systems
- Basic knowledge of musical performance conventions and forms; basic music/score reading and familiarity with classical music preferred
- Demonstrated experience in collaborative teamwork
- Demonstrated skill in applied problem-solving
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with coworkers of a diverse group of backgrounds and personalities
- Demonstrated ability to accurately express and exchange information in time-sensitive performance situations
- Demonstrated ability to assess and determine accurate information for setup of equipment and instruments from diagrams and/or drawing
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
- Constantly move, transport, position, and remove items such as chairs, risers, boxes, tables, instruments, audio equipment, lighting instruments, cabling, and other items that may be bulky or heavy (up to 50 pounds); remain in a stationary position for less than 20% of time when actively performing essential job functions
- Regularly ascend and descend stairs and stepladders
- Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions in South Florida during event setups and operations
