Description: Our manufacturing client is currently seeking a Production Supervisor for night shift in the Victoria TX area. Hours are 11pm to 7am Monday to Friday.
This job will have the following responsibilities:
- Supervises training, evaluation, and performance reviews of shift personnel.
- Handles administrative tasks such as maintaining employee attendance records, initiating personnel action forms, writing counseling forms, processing vacation requests, and generating necessary reports.
- Leads risk assessment activities within their area of responsibility, prioritizing corrective and preventive actions to mitigate environmental, health, or safety risks.
- Ensures the safety of all employees under their supervision through active engagement in safety activities and clear communication of safe work expectations.
- Supports the shift safety program to minimize accidents and injuries, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Must be knowledgeable in blown film, troubleshooting, extruder drives, heaters, and controls.
- Monitors quality and production, making necessary decisions to maintain maximum rates with high quality efficiently.
- Coordinates with Maintenance for scheduled shutdowns and repairs to achieve necessary maintenance work with minimal operational losses.
- Inspects each line to ensure products are being run according to job specifications and takes corrective action to resolve issues.
- Closes out production work orders and records daily production, forecasting equipment needs for future orders.
- Reads work orders and checks production reports on the lines.
- Communicates verbally with all shift employees, Production Manager, Management Staff, and Maintenance.
- Leads all required safety meetings (e.g., Pre-shift, Department, Change Management, General communication, Town Hall, etc.).
- Promotes a safe and productive team work environment.
- Completes incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implements corrective actions promptly and thoroughly.
- Ensures proper training and development of all assigned employees.
- Sets and achieves goals for their organizational unit, ensuring all employees understand and work towards these goals.
- Motivates and coaches employees through effective communication and frequent performance feedback, identifying and coordinating additional training as needed.
- Ensures efficient and economical use of materials, improves methods, and eliminates wasteful practices within the department.
- Communicates between shifts and departments to anticipate and prepare for potential production concerns.
- Accurately records daily production in the computer and submits various reports to the Production Manager.
- Maintains good employee relations by promoting maximum efficiency and productivity through effective communication and regular performance reviews.
- Provides appropriate training (e.g., toolbox meetings, safety, etc.).
- Keeps accurate records of training, production, and other related activities.
- Assign tasks and provide technical support to meet production schedules and inventory needs.
- Conduct daily reviews and analyses to assess progress against production goals.
- Lead teams, committees, and special projects as needed.
- Report daily on downtime, efficiency, and production scrap.
- Minimize scrap and maximize efficiency on each shift.
- Prepare for and oversee product changeovers, ensuring line clearances.
- Assist packers by packing bottles during breaks and lunches.
- Ensure the completion of daily and weekly preventive maintenance on shift.
- Identify and respond to various sounds and alarms.
- Provide timely and appropriate performance feedback.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 4 year college degree in manufacturing or engineering is a plus
- 3-5 years of experience working in a manufacturing plant with experience in plastics and more specifically blown film extrusion is highly preferred.
- Ability to influence people effectively and efficiently in order to meet production and organization goals.
- Ability to effectively manage complex, difficult, and emotional situations involving employees.
- Self-starter that uses initiative within established policies and procedural guidelines.
- Ability to multi-task and effectively manage rapidly changing priorities.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adhere to Safety, Health, and Environmental Vision, Policy, and Standards.
- Work a night shift of 12 or more hours with a flexible work schedule including holidays and weekends.
- This is a night shift position. Hours are 11pm to 7am Monday to Friday
- Ability to stand, sit, kneel, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and crawl for extended periods multiple times per day.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to work in warm, humid, and cool climates.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes safety glasses, safety goggles, hearing protection, steel toe shoes/boots, face shield, and gloves.
- Ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack; maintain a forklift operator license.
