SUMMARY
The Toolroom Supervisor role is responsible for the efficient daily operation of the Strattec Security Corporation MKE Toolroom. This position, along with the Toolroom Planner, is responsible for the efficient operation of the toolroom to ensure the timely delivery of tools to support the production goals of the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervision of toolroom personnel, including training and managing performance.
- Ensure the toolroom maintains a zero incident Safety culture.
- Develop and enforce safety protocols for the handling and storage of tools.
- Assist Toolroom Planner to ensure effective communication of schedules & priorities to toolroom personnel and appropriate systems.
- Conduct regular audits of tools and equipment to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Resolve any issues related to tool performance or employee conflicts within the toolroom.
- Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in toolroom technologies and management practices.
- Prepare reports summarizing toolroom activities, challenges, and resource needs.
- Collaborate with others to streamline operations and support the overall workflow.
- Analyze delivery data with team to identify and eliminate high occurrence breakdown events that negatively impact delivery.
- Working with the toolroom team, apply a continuous improvement mindset to optimize toolroom operating procedures.
- Working with the Toolroom Planner, maintain a detailed inventory of tools and equipment.
- Assist in budget preparation for the tool room operations and the monitoring of expenditures.
RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS
Supervisory Relationships:
- Manufacturing Engineering & Tooling Manager
- Multiple unionized direct reports working during 3 shifts in Skilled Trades
Organization Relationships:
- Frequent contact with Tool & Die Makers, Machinists and Technicians
- Frequent contact with Toolroom Planner and Production Supervisors.
- Frequent contact with Tool Designers and CNC Programmers
- Moderate contact with Purchasing
External Business Relationships:
- Moderate contact with outside suppliers for tooling or equipment.
Qualifications
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of ten years experience within a toolroom, job shop or manufacturing setting and at least three years supervisory experience in these environments or 15 years of experience in a toolroom setting with some “lead man” experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Tool & Die Technology, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Engineering, Metal Working or related field preferred.
- Experience supervising personnel in a union environment preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite, especially MS Excel.
- The ability to influence others through strong communication skills.
- The ability to manage multiple deliverables in a complex environment.
- Proficiency with MRP/ERP/AS400/Kanban tools preferred.
REASONING ABILITY
This role will require the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Some of these principles will include the ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) and to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak or hear. The employee is required to sit, and is frequently required to stand, walk and use hands to type, touch and/or feel. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role will require the employee to both be located within an office environment and to walk and work near moving manufacturing equipment which includes requirements of vision, hearing and/or foot protection.
