Job Location: Sentinel/Leer South Mining Complex (Philippi, WV)
OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:
Provide direction and leadership to hourly employees with responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of underground coal mining equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Implement all safety and environmental policies and assures regulatory compliance. Ensure compliance with all state, federal, and company policies, rules, and regulations
- Plan, organize, schedule, and coordinate with shift foreman all mining and/or utility projects
- Supervise and provide direction to hourly employees
- Instruct employees in the proper performance of each task and advise them of any hazards
- Perform pre-shift inspections, test and monitor employees responsible for performing safety checks and tests
- Maintain the necessary records associated with mine functions
- Monitor supplies to keep adequate amounts of materials on hand and stored in an orderly manner to preclude unnecessary loss of and damage to materials
- Communicate to management and other shifts any changes in the status of mine operations, which may have a potential impact on productivity. Prepare and deliver effective safety meetings
- Assure performance standards are maintained
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
- Hold safety meetings with crew and making several pre-shift checks including review of examiner's books, equipment conditions, section conditions and roof conditions
- Monitor environmental compliance
MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of High School diploma or GED equivalent
- 5 years of coal mining experience with 2 years supervisory experience
- West Virginia Mine Foreman's certifications required
- Proven safety and attendance record
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
- Computer Proficiency
- Thorough knowledge of general mining practices, and State and Federal mining laws
- EMT-M certification preferred
